Research Intern - Wind Turbine Engineering We are seeking a graduate-level research intern to join our team in the Engineering Research department at the Roux Institute at Northeastern University. The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to an exciting project focused on wind farm flow control and the development of nacelle transfer functions for wind turbine measurements.
The project aims to correct errors in wind speed and direction measurements taken by the sonic anemometer, which is located downstream of the rotor. By developing nacelle transfer functions that adjust these values based on turbine performance, relative wind direction, and wind speed, we can improve the accuracy of the measurements. The intern will be responsible for evaluating actual wind farm data and developing an algorithm that provides the nacelle transfer function.
As a research intern, you will work with Python to filter and model wind plant data. You will also have the opportunity to develop and test nacelle transfer function algorithms that can be applied to future wind farm flow control data analytics and control projects. Prior experience in data analytics with Python is required, and knowledge of wind energy principles is preferred.
Responsibilities - Evaluate actual wind farm data to identify patterns and trends
- Develop and test nacelle transfer function algorithms using Python
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to analyze and interpret research findings
- Document and communicate research results effectively
Qualifications - Currently pursuing a graduate degree in a relevant field, such as mechanical or civil engineering
- Strong knowledge of data analytics techniques and experience with Python
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team
Application Materials - A resume and 1-page cover letter detailing your interest and qualifications for the position.
