Position Overview
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the data and reporting detail required to support the HR & Risk Management Department. This also includes collaboration with management on and contribution to the creation and implementation of new programs and systems within the company. At its core, this position supports, is committed to, and acts as an ambassador of company policy, ethics, and values of Quality, Service & Integrity. This position is primarily focused on the following objectives:
- Overall company compliance to safety, company policy, and legal regulations
- Employee and contractor relations & training
- Management of insurance claims, incident reports, near misses
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for improving HR and safety policies alongside management as well as, offering any recommendations on how to improve those current policies.
Role and Responsibilities
- Facilitate quarterly drug screens
- Conduct periodic risk assessment visits at each of our 11 locations
- Update and maintain the company's current safety handbook
- Work with department director to enforce safety program compliance
- Work with facility leaders to lead weekly safety toolbox talks and assist with leading monthly safety meetings company-wide
- Determine topics and content schedule for weekly toolbox talks
- Manage independent contractor compliance, including certificates of insurance, background checks, and new contractor onboarding
- Assist with management of general liability, auto, and workers compensation claim activity
- Analysis of claim trends, root cause analysis, and partnership with site
- Management of damaged public and private utility claims
- Attend semi-annual risk control workshops
- Provide general support to the HR & Risk Control Department, inclusive of administrative tasks, correspondence
Required Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in safety, risk control, or human resources
- A self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and guidance
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks
- Highly organized
- Effective problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectively
- Eagerness to collaborate with different departments and staff to uphold safety best practices across the organization
- Ability to navigate challenging conversations effectively and respectfully when corrective action may need to be taken
- Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
- Proficient in relevant computer applications
- Salesforce or other CRM
- GMail/GSuite
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated to achieve daily responsibilities
- Ability to travel to company facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Florida on a quarterly basis
- This position requires the ability to travel roughly 20% of the year between location visits and semi-annual workshops
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Bilingual, Spanish
- Safety credentials: ASP, CSP, OSHA General Industry or Construction Certificate, other specialty safety/EHS credentials, or bachelor's degree in risk management or safety related field
