ABOUT ENERGY FOUNDATION

U.S. Energy Foundation’s (EF) mission is to secure a clean and equitable energy future to tackle the climate crisis. We envision a healthy, safe, equitable economy powered by clean energy. We believe a thriving clean energy economy can create sustainable opportunities, spur innovation, and protect our climate—for today and future generations.

EF supports education and analysis to promote non-partisan policy solutions that advance renewable energy and energy efficiency while opening doors to greater innovation and productivity—growing the economy with dramatically less pollution. For more than 30 years, EF has supported grantees to help educate poliymakers and the general public about the benefits of a clean energy economy. Our grantees include business, health, environmental, labor, equity, community, faith, and consumer groups, as well as policy experts, think tanks, universities, and more.

At EF, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are top organizational commitments. We are working daily to uproot racism and other forms of oppression and create equitable systems that support people to flourish. We aim to bring humility, transparency, respect, and an appreciation for others’ lived experiences to our interactions with colleagues, grantees, and partners.

EF is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, and our more than 100 staff members are based in locations throughout the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and West regions, where they can best serve our programs, partners, operations, and other functions.

POSITION SUMMARY

The EF Program team comprises policy, communications, campaigns, and grantmaking experts. EF has developed goals to achieve an equitable clean energy future in the areas of clean power, reduced fossil fuels, clean transportation, and energy optimization in the built environment. We support efforts at the local, state, regional, and federal levels to build power for our clean energy future and to make progress toward those sectoral clean energy goals. The Senior Director, Power (Senior Director), is charged with developing a cohesive policy strategy for EF’s programmatic work across the power sector, that captures all aspects of our EF work and connects the work of our Fossil Fuels Program and Clean Grid Program.

The Senior Director is charged with leading EF’s power sector team, professionals who are working to achieve sectoral policy goals and who manage expert networks to fulfill the organization’s mission of securing a clean and equitable energy future to tackle the climate crisis; they also will work closely with the place-based policy experts working throughout the country. The Senior Director is tasked with synthesizing strategies across the programs and ensuring the work of our Fossil Fuels and Clean Grid programs maximize ambition, increase innovation, and align to achieve EF’s organizational priorities while supporting fundraising activities for the Program team and across the organization. The Senior Director also will scan the field for important new areas of work within the sector that need EF’s attention and then organize teams of staff and consultants to tackle these areas.

EF actively seeks to expand Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within our organization and through our work. We encourage people of color and candidates with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to apply.
