Job description

Responsible for directing, coordinating and managing clinical Pharmacy services and ensuring the Pharmacy department provides optimal clinical services. Facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems and processes that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, evidence-based, cost-effective medication therapies. Responsible for oversight of staff competencies, scheduling, and other daily operations as needed. Directs and participates in the department’s long-term planning, revenue/expense analysis, operational and capital budgeting, and human resource management activities. Works with system level Clinical Director of Pharmacy Services to facilitate implementation and monitoring of clinical initiatives. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager directs and participates in the department’s efforts to promote rational drug therapy. Clinical Pharmacy manager also will serve as Residency Program Director (RPD).

Patient Care

· Directs development, implementation and maintenance of clinical pharmacy services

· Directs and participates in the preparation and presentation of pharmacy related information to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other medical staff committees

· Facilitates the identifications, resolution, implementation and communication of medication related issues in collaboration with the medical staff and other health care professionals

· Coordinates and participates in development and maintenance of up-to-date policies, procedures,

and training materials for the provision of pharmaceutical care

· Directs and participates in the training of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students,medical staff, and other technical and supportive staff

· Directs the implementation and maintenance of performance improvement programs for the clinical functions of the Pharmacy Department

· Serves on committees and in meetings that may pertain to patient safety or pharmaceutical care

· Assures compliance with DNV, Iowa Board of Pharmacy, and other accrediting/regulatory agencies

· Directs the coordination of the utilization of information systems, automated dispensing machines,and other technology to meet the services needs of the Pharmacy Department

· Assists in maintaining the formulary, sources of information on preparations, standard compendia on pharmaceuticals, reference text and journals in the department for reference

· Actively participate in budgetary forecasting with Market Director of Pharmacy Services and Senior Leadership

· Assist and coordinate with the Regional Director of Pharmacy Services to integrate the department functions with overall functioning of the organization to improve services and patient care

Relationship Management

· Maintain and align relationships across the department recognizing UPH policies and practices as

standard

· Responsible for overseeing appropriate training and in-servicing for clinical staff

· Ensure staff maintain required competencies and licenses in accordance with organization, Iowa

Board of Pharmacy, and all other regulatory services

· Performs the human resources functions of hiring, discipline, evaluations, and staff development

Regulatory Compliance

· Maintain competency and awareness of current rules and regulations from Iowa Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory services

· Communicate regulatory rules and regulations to staff and ensure enforcement

· Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

· Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Requirements

Education:

 

 

 

· Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)

· Meet requirements per ASHP for Residency Program Director

 

Experience:

 

 

 

 

· Three years of hospital pharmacy experience required

· Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English

· Ability to work with computer systems

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

· Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

· Current license to practice pharmacy in Iowa. Good standing with Iowa Board of Pharmacy examiners.
