Job description
The successful candidate will
- Demonstrate passion and expertise in the teaching of Science with a specific proficiency in biology and chemistry.
- Teach skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in biology and chemistry or physics.
- Be well versed in multiple areas of science and science education.
- Design curriculum and assessments that can meet the needs of a diverse community of learners.
- Demonstrate an ability to differentiate instruction and assessments as needed to meet the needs of a diverse community of learners.
- Be confident in the use of technology in the classroom to engage learners.
- Apply engaging and innovative student centered teaching practices that adjusts to meet varying student needs
- Possess a growth mindset in considering current pedagogical best practices and an understanding of adolescent development
- Implement best learning practices and keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods by engaging in conferences and other professional growth opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with the members of the department to develop courses that are consistent and coordinated across the science curriculum.
- Self-directed with a strong work ethic
- Committed to school-wide initiatives, campus involvement, and the lives of our students outside of the classroom
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and achievement.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching 4 sections of Science, which may include IBC, Psychology, or IPC.
- Advising 4 - 8 students
- Coach or the equivalent in the afternoon program by our tiered coaching system
- Serve as dorm parent with related duties (potential)
Berwick Academy is located approximately one hour north of Boston in the beautiful seacoast area of southern Maine. The Berwick Campus spans roughly 80 Acres and includes 10 academic buildings, 2 administrative and 5 residential structures. Our student body commutes from 68 communities that include the states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

Qualifications:
- Innovative teaching practices that balance the development of procedural skills, conceptual understanding of scientific ideas, appropriate use of technology, and opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within the department
- Bachelor's degree required ; Master's degree preferred
- 3+ years teaching preferred
- Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
