Job description
Job Summary: The Instructional Innovation Specialist supports student learning through collaboration with teachers and other school staff, particularly in the use of innovative instructional practices . This collaboration can and should occur through professional development (both school-based and division-wide), coaching, co-teaching, PLCs, and data review meetings. Innovative instruction practices should include integration of technology that promotes deeper student learning. Through collaboration around instructional design, the Instructional Innovation Specialist can facilitate these learning pathways and assist teachers in building their digital capacity. Instructional Innovation Specialists also serve as a resource for administration in the areas of innovative technology, instructional best practices, and data analysis.

Essential Functions: - Support the implementation of the VDOE Educational Technology Plan; including Learning (Instructional Coaching), Teaching (Professional Learning), Leading (Innovative Leadership) and Infrastructure (Access and Safety), within the school and across the division.
- Provide a high level of support, through modeling and coaching, to teachers and other school staff in the use of innovative instructional practices and supportive instructional technology that lead to improved student learning.
- Facilitate division and school-based professional learning and the development of resources for innovation and the purposeful use of technology as connected to school and division goals.
- Lead division-wide effort to appropriately integrate technology into all areas of the curriculum as guided by state, national and international standards for students and staff.
- Coach teachers to facilitate their development of knowledge, skills, and understanding of supportive technologies
- Provides leadership for school-based technology integration and STEAM initiatives
- Work collaboratively with instructional leaders (i.e., principals, curriculum specialists, coaches) to identify and evaluate effective instructional technology practices.
- Create, model, and co-teach innovative, technology-rich lessons with teachers and students.
- Analyze data to identify needs of teachers and monitor progress on identified goals.
- Regularly evaluate and reflect on professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen effectiveness.
- Cooperates with other staff members in promoting a positive organizational climate.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the supervisor in accordance with the school/system policies and practices.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: - The Instructional Innovation Specialist must demonstrate the ability and professional and personal characteristics to function in the role of an instructional technology coach, teacher leader, and professional development specialist for the school division.
- He/she must possess the ability to work alone, with small and large groups of teachers and education community members.
- The Instructional Innovation Specialist must possess the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, teachers, administrators, and students.
- The Instructional Innovation Specialist must have a strong foundation in pedagogy and teaching methodologies and be knowledgeable about the integration of technology into the curriculum and instructional program.
- He/she must have the ability to solve problems in an efficient and timely manner.
- The Instructional Innovation Specialist must be able to communicate effectively with adult and student learners.
Education and Experience: - Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university, a graduate degree is preferred.
- Possess or be eligible to acquire appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
- Applicant must have at least five years of teaching experience.
- Previous teacher leadership and/or professional development experience is also preferred.
Special Requirements: - The Instructional Innovation Specialist must be able to provide his/her own transportation to schools throughout the division.
- H e/she must possess good moral character.
- The ITRT must be able to function as a liaison between the school and the school division technology support office.
Salary: This is a 11-month position. Please see starting salary below . Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
