Position Description
Job title: Director of Catechesis
FLSA: Exempt
Reporting Functions: Reports to the Superintendent of Catholic Education
Job Function: The director will develop and implement programs designed to meet the needs of parish faith formation and provide a support system for pastors and parish staff. The director will have in-depth knowledge of the Catholic Church including familiarity with structure, function, and institutions. The director will also assist schools in their call to evangelize within an educational setting.
The director provides vision, training, resources, and services for the implementation of diocesan policies and guidelines related to catechesis in the parishes and schools and is responsible for the formation and collaborative support of the parish and school leaders responsible for catechetics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Overall
- Develop and implement programs designed to meet the needs of parish and school faith formation and provide a support system.
- Provide consultation and support to pastors, parish staff, and parish councils.
- Collaborate with the parishes to provide training and guidelines for age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate sacramental preparation.
- Assist and resource parishes in furthering the implementation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
- Maintain and develop resource materials pertinent to faith formation.
- Prepare and/or review catechetical curricula for the diocese; review and recommend catechetical textbooks to parishes and schools as needed.
- Network with inter/intra-diocesan entities (local, provincial, regional, national, and international) pertinent to catechetical ministry.
- Act as a diocesan liaison to regional, national, or other organizations and attend regional and national conferences and meetings when possible.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational requirements:
- Bachelor's degree; Master's in theology preferred
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a Catholic school, parish, or diocesan setting.

Expert knowledge of the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and proven ability to impart this knowledge.
Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith, and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith, including in lifestyle and on personal social media.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal and public relation skills.
Ability to accomplish projects on time and within budget.
Ability to work professionally and collaboratively.
Optimistic, enthusiastic, and team-centered professional with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Competence in the use of technology required for this position.
Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear both in person and by telephone; frequent use of equipment that includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue. Occasionally required to reach and lift with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working conditions: Working hours - 35 hours/week -Monday through Friday; 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM. May be required to occasionally work more than normal working hours, including evening and weekend responsibilities when connected with programming and events.
