Sr. Project Engineer, Frame and Chassis Systems
Location
Gardena, CA | United States
Job description
Zero labs is on a mission to bring Premium Classic Vehicles into the modern world through electrification. We are looking for a highly-motivated, multi-skilled engineer to join our Frame and Chassis Systems team in supporting both New Product Development as well as Zero Labs Operations. The right fit for the job is someone who can lead multiple designs from concept through manufacturing at scale. He or she needs to be able to see the big picture but be tactical and detail oriented to get systems across the finish line. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team on defining, and operationalizing, a new industry.
This role is currently based in Gardena, CA and is primarily on-site. Please check commute impact ahead of applying. Paid relocation is currently not available. If this doesn't scare you away, and the below details sound exciting we'd love to hear from you!
What you will do:
- Work with Industrial Design, Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to create, build, and deliver the world's best electrified premium classic vehicles.
- Drive the technical and operational development of frame and chassis systems from requirements gathering through vehicle install and operations.
- Create 3D engineered models, prototypes, and production parts that take into account cost and manufacturability, without sacrificing premium function, feel, fit, and finish.
- Create 2D drawings with appropriate GD&T and engineering documentation.
- Become the expert for the system and all parts within your domain for our current and future platforms. This also includes being an expert in the transition from a "legacy" vehicle to a Zero Labs vehicle.
- Work with vendors and in-house technicians on fabrication and install of your system and components.
- Identify and drive opportunities to improve simplicity, cost, and share the best practice with teammates.
- Research and implement new, modular technologies and find partners that can supply them.
- Take ownership by learning from mistakes and holding yourself and others accountable to continuous improvement.
- Be accountable to timelines and constantly push the team to do the same.
- Have a lot of fun, and take full satisfaction being part of the Zero Labs mission.
Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. MS and PH degrees are a plus, with specialization in chassis and frame systems.
- At least 7 years of experience designing parts and systems for automotive or aerospace with proven examples of putting parts into production.
- Familiarity with UL, ISO, and other industry standards.
- Working ability of design for manufacturing and cost considerations.
- Demonstrated excellence and working knowledge in CAD tools for 3D and 2D such as Catia, Solidworks, Pro/E, Etc... You will be "doing your own CAD" while the business scales.
- Ability to perform tolerance calculations and incorporate GD&T into prints.
- Excellent Bill Of Material (BOM) management skills.
- Hands-on ability to work with physical parts and turn them into product. This isn't a computer only job.
- Experience in vendor sourcing and management, including low to mid-volume specialty work, and outside services.
- Strong ability to manage development budgets, risk, and mitigation for your parts.
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing and assembly methods, and ability to design for it.
- A positive, self-starting attitude that works well with others and can be accountable to customers.
