Job description
The Communication Coordinator assists in the development and execution of strategic communications, publications and other materials for the Plant Resilience Institute (PRI) and its multi-institute initiatives. The coordinator monitors and maintains both a strong web and social media presence, represents the institute in social media contexts, and composes and edits press releases, newsletters, social media posts, website and/or related content.
Responsibilities:
Supports the development and implementation of strategic plans for communications (internal and external) for PRI and large-scale initiatives managed by PRI faculty.
Researches materials, interviews individuals, and collects information in order to create content (copy and/or graphics) for print and digital marketing, fundraising, grant proposals, outreach, training, and communications materials.
Drafts and executes promotional campaigns and timelines for events and programs.
Develops and implements social media strategies and campaigns.
Supports training programs, workshops, and seminars.
Assists with the development and implementation of annual reports, newsletters, and reports to funding agencies.
Advises on and tracks metrics to measure reach and audience engagement; reviews analytics, feedback, and trends to inform and content strategy and adjust as needed.
Creates and updates content for websites and assists with editing and management of personnel/delegation of website development responsibilities via a content management system.
Acts as liaison to communication teams in other units.
Interacts with:
Faculty/PRI admin team/Communications Personnel/Other Staff - in order to receive direction, exchange information, coordinate and evaluate projects.
Students, On-call, Temporary Workers and Volunteers - in order to provide instruction, coordinate work, resolve problems, and exchange information.
Supervisors – in order to receive assignments and clarification, report on progress and exchange information.
Public - in order to provide services, products, exchange information and perform public relation activities.
Proportion of duties:
30% Developing digital marketing strategy, content, and implementing through websites, graphics and infographics, and social media channels.
30% Event and special program promotion and support.
20% Creating newsletters, annual reports, research stories, and faculty announcements.
15% Communication with internal stakeholders.
5% Special projects, reports, and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
