Position Purpose:

The Field Coordinator supports learning by advising social work students in preparation for their field placements, managing field file materials, and facilitating the connection between the student and the field liaison. The Field Coordinator provides support, problem solving, and linkage to field instructors at field placement sites and facilitates evaluation of the field student according to the Council on Social Work Education social work competencies and practice behaviors.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Provides advising to social work students specifically related to field instruction.
  2. Approves proposed field placements as students submit field application forms reflecting secured placements.
  3. Coordinates with AUO team to support administrative processes related to field instruction.
  4. Manages field instruction files for students, including required field paperwork (field application, learning agreement, evaluations, and liability insurance).
  5. Manages field database, including updates to student, supervisor, and site accounts as needed.
  6. Evaluates the progress of the student within the learning environment, specifically if the student has been trained in social work skills/tasks, if student has opportunity to practice skills, and if student is receiving feedback and supervision from the MSW supervisor at the internship. Evaluation data is gathered from field student, field instructor, and field liaison.
  7. Assigns students to the field liaison for monitoring during the field placement.
  8. Manages problem solving for students and field placements when barriers to student learning are presented by field liaison.
  9. Communicates with new and potential field placements and field instructors in an effort to broaden student learning opportunities in the field.
  10. Submits grades for field students to the registrar once requirements are completed.
  11. Obtains knowledge of the BSW and MSW programs operating at all Aurora University campuses and communicates mission and learning/teaching objectives to students and field instructors through various means including presentations, individual field advising, etc.
  12. Participates in the recruitment, registration, and professional development events for undergraduate and graduate programs in an effort to provide information regarding the field program.
  13. Coordinates with accreditation efforts with the School of Social Work at the Aurora campus.
  14. Coordinates with the field office to ensure continuity between the programs/modalities.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
