Position Title: Retail Thrift Store Manager
Classification: Exempt/Salaried
Supervisor: Retail Director
Supervises: Directly supervises store staff and assists in supervising donation center staff
Position Objectives:
This position is responsible for effectively managing the retail thrift store program, including supervising and scheduling staff, selling quality used goods to the community, offering excellent customer service, overseeing the donation center and processing of donated goods as needed, and generating operating revenue to support the agency and its programs.
Responsibilities:
Personnel and Operations Management (40%)
- Directly interview, select, train, supervise and evaluate thrift store employees.
- Schedule adequate staffing and supervision during store hours, including emergency coverage to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness of operations
- Identify staffing needs and recommend changes to the Retail Director
- Communicate established personnel policies and operating procedures to store employees and volunteers and monitor compliance
- Make recommendations for procedural changes to the Retail Director
- Build and maintain a positive workplace environment within the retail thrift store environment
Customer Sales and Service (20%)
- Direct and monitor store operations to drive revenue growth and ensure monthly sales, payroll and production budgets are met
- Demonstrates, promotes and ensures professional, prompt, friendly customer service of staff toward customers and donors
- Operates the cash register, provides sales receipts to customers and processes gift cards as needed
- Responsible for the accurate handling of donated assets and monies involved in store operations, including preparing daily deposits and cash receipts, banking, and change
- Maintain accurate daily sales records
- Implement and participate in customer feedback programs
- Represent the concerns and suggestions of customers/donors to the Retail Director and the staff
Donor and Volunteer Relations (10%)
- Assist in supervising the donations receiving area
- Provide clear and consistent information to the public about donating to LISTEN
- In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, orient, train, supervise, and evaluate volunteers
- Provide support and cooperation to volunteers to make the best use of their time and talents for LISTEN
Client Service and Referral (10%)
- Ensure that store staff follow voucher policies and can provide information regarding other LISTEN services as needed
- Ensure that client confidentiality is maintained and that clients are treated with respect and courtesy
Inventory and Merchandising (10%)
- Ensure fair and consistent pricing in accordance with pricing policies
- Effectively organize and stock merchandising displays to enhance sales
- Ensure all items in the sales area are available for immediate sale
Facilities, Safety and Security (10%)
- Assure adherence to sound, generally accepted retail/resale business practices in the store, including proper cash handling, inventory control, and security procedures
- Ensure that safety and security measures are followed. Provide a clean, safe, accessible store site for customers and staff
- Identify needed maintenance projects and make recommendations to the Retail Director
Other
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and training programs as requested
- Other duties as assigned by the Retail Director or Executive Director
Requirements:
- Associate's degree or equivalent. Experience may be substituted on 2 years equals 1 year basis
- At least two years of retail and supervisory experience is required, including experience hiring, managing staff performance, including separations, as needed
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to build and maintain a positive workplace environment
- Respect for and the ability to maintain client confidentiality
- Responsible, respectful approach to the job and the team
- Excellent math and communication skills
- Must be able to pass a background check
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk and sit. The employee will occasionally bend and reach. Must be able to hear, speak and talk. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and to handle items with dust and mold.
