Job description

This salaried full-time position assists the Pastor and other clergy of SMM parish in overseeing all parish activities pertaining to the Sacred Liturgy, Pastoral Care, Marriage Preparation and Nullity. Essential Job Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Sacred Liturgy Assist the Pastor with liturgical planning, including but not limited to liturgies for daily and weekly masses, liturgical high seasons, Holy days, sacrament masses, scrutinies, etc. Coordinate and oversee: o the maintenance of the Sacristies including altar linens, vestments, candles and supplies, cleaning, etc.; o church art and decor based on the liturgical season; o Prayers of the Faithful o Perpetual Adoration, including schedules, resources, formation for Adorers, and Chapel care and maintenance; o Assist the Coordinator of Funerals by serving as a backup when needed and by assisting at funeral masses; o liturgical volunteers for all the above, including recruiting, training, scheduling and ongoing formation. Coordinate and manage opening and closing of church daily, including weekends. Coordinate a work schedule that accommodates the church's liturgical needs, which will include weekends and evenings during the high liturgical seasons. Pastoral Care o Assist the Pastor in ensuring his vision for the Pastoral Care ministry is met. Coordinate and oversee: o Holy Communion for the sick and homebound delivered by ministers after mass; o Responding to sick call requests and coordinating the administering of sacraments such as Viaticum and Anointings for the sick and homebound by clergy; o Prayer ministry at hospice centers; o Pastoral Care volunteer ministers for all the above, including recruiting, training, scheduling and ongoing formation. Nullity Facilitate the annulment process for petitioners: o Interview petitioners to determine the timeline of events; o Review the annulment process; o Gather information required for the annulment process; o Download questionnaire from the Diocese of Phoenix website for the petitioner to complete; o Enter, submit, and print the required information on the Diocesan website; o Mail the printer copy along with the questionnaire the petitioner completed to the Diocese of Phoenix office. o Follow up on any/all pending steps. Train, coordinate and collaborate with volunteers assisting in the Nullity process. Marriage Preparation Ensure couples wishing to be married at SMM are prepared for the sacrament and have completed all required steps, including: o Welcome meeting where all steps are outlined for the couple; o Follow-up meetings and communications ensuring couple is on track to complete all required steps. Communicate with the Wedding Coordinator and share pertinent information so the wedding can be planned accordingly. Communicate with staff regularly regarding Sacred Liturgy, Pastoral Care and Marriage Preparation as appropriate. Support the Pastor with any assigned tasks on an as-needed basis. Follow St. Mary Magdalene's policies and procedures. including the work hours hours and remote work guidelines. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required The ability and willingness to engage in ongoing professional formation in Liturgy, Pastoral Care, Marriage Preparation and Nullity. Knowledge of current pertinent Diocesan guidelines and procedures pertaining to Liturgy, Pastoral Care, Marriage Preparation, and Nullity. The ability to recruit, train and coordinate volunteers in ministry. The ability to prioritize and organize work tasks. The ability to self-motivate. The ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, work in a collaborative manner, and to communicate effectively with clergy, staff and volunteers. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) Ability to use and learn church-related software such as Flocknote, PDS (Parish Data System), and other similar programs used for scheduling, calendaring, newsletters, etc. Minimum Qualifications Must be an active Roman Catholic in good standing. Must have a love for the Liturgy, Pastoral Care and Marriage Preparation and a thorough understanding of the associated principles. Must be current with all Safe environment training and requirements. Must be open to and actively seek out professional development. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, to meet the needs of church seasons. Demonstrated computer literacy. Must be able to effectively communicate with individuals calling in with requests for sick calls, as well as ministers and office staff.
