Job description

The Family Discipleship Pastor position at Faith Bible Church has a dual focus with responsibilities both in pastoral shepherding and providing leadership for the children’s, student, & adult ministries. As such, he must be an elder-qualified man as defined by scripture (Titus 1). His role will also include direct oversight and responsibility for the adult ministry strategy, programming, budgeting, and volunteers.

He is a member of the Elder Council and serves on the Operations Team. He is a faithful steward of God’s ministry and fully dedicated to prayer for both believers and the lost.  He is personally active in the equipping of the saints to do the work of the church.  He is an effective and bold teacher of the Word publicly in corporate worship gatherings, in small group settings, and one-on-one.  He is willing and able to both encourage and reprove the body based on the Word.  He actively seeks the wisdom of other mature believers, is an encourager of new believers, and mentors those who may someday be called to formal ministry roles. He is a guardian of the truths of the Word and a staunch opponent of false doctrines and false teaching.

Organizational Information:

Position Title: Family Discipleship Pastor

Reports to:The Administrative Pastor for position expectations, reviews, assignments, and responsibilities.

Managerial & Supervisory Oversight:Family Discipleship Pastor has direct responsibility for the age-specific ministry staff. This includes Children’s Director, Youth Pastor, and any adult-specific staffing or volunteers that are deemed necessary.

Schedule & Ministry Engagement:The base workweek will be 40 hours.  However, the position is a key leadership role and duties will regularly require time beyond predictable office hours. He is expected to be a regular participant in church bodylife.

General Accountability:It is essential that the Family Discipleship Pastor performs all duties in a way consistent with Biblical standards and staff core values, and that he represents the values and policies of Faith Bible Church and places, whether performing professional duties or engaging in personal activities.

Qualifications:

A candidate for the position of Family Discipleship Pastor should possess the following:

Education:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Bible, Christian education, pastoral ministry; or relevant experience.

• 5+ yrs. experience in pastoral ministry is preferred

Experience and Attributes:

• Clear call to full-time ministry
• Abilities, gifts, and behaviors consistent with biblical requirements for an Elder/Pastor
• Demonstratable in-depth knowledge of scripture and Christian doctrine
• Clearly articulated personal testimony consistent with Faith Bible Church beliefs
• Proven mentoring and Biblical counseling skills
• Ability to teach and/or preach
• Demonstratable leadership skills
• Experience in team leading
• Willingness to delegate and release responsibilities to foster the development of others
• Ability to interact effectively with paid and volunteer staff, and with third-party partners
• Proven record in team development and unity
• General Pastoral Duties & Responsibilities:
• Engage with elder team to fulfill the 6 key church-wide elder responsibilities
• Work with pastoral staff to provide shepherding needs to the church (weddings, funerals, pre-marriage, biblical counseling, pastoral visits, member care)
• Sit weekly with Operation Team to develop practical implementation of elder directives and vision

Family Ministries Leadership Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide vision, direction, and tactical instruction to align all age-specific ministries to the elders’ vision for “Family Discipleship”
• Support age-specific ministry staff in recruitment, assessment of gifting, and leadership development of necessary volunteers
• Meet regularly, both individually and collectively, with age-specific ministry staff to solicit feedback, needs, and opportunities for collaboration across ministries
• Personal discipleship of potential and future teachers and group leaders, across ministries (with special emphasis on developing husbands, fathers, & future elders)

Adult Ministry Direct Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide vision, direction, support, & prayer for major adult ministry areas and teams (The following are representative of current priorities):

Connections:Generate awareness of our small group focus. Identify attenders not presently active in a group and encourage engagement with appropriate groups.
Community:Provide various forms of support to small group leaders and existing groups. Promote ongoing development of group leaders & teachers. Provide curriculum assessment and financial support to groups, when necessary. Assess and encourage “Up, In, & Out” dimensions of groups.
Cultivation: Identify, evaluate, and onboard new group leaders. Attend to the character and competency development of group leaders and teachers. Utilize tools such as Ministry Grid to provide development resources to ministry leaders. Provide instruction and discipleship materials for believers at various levels of spiritual development, to support and supplement other ministries. This may include in-person classes, digital content, and various other resources.
