Job description
Min Rate = $35.43 / Max Rate = $52.44 *Placement is in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Units Agreement.
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for managing and coordination care for the post-procedural extended recovery, and/or the observational care patient in the Cardiac Vascular Care Unit. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the management of patient care utilizing the nursing process to asses, plan, implement, and evaluate patient outcomes. The nurse directs and guides the delivery of nursing care, patient education, and all care related activities, while maintaining standards of professional nursing collaborating with other disciplines as appropriate. The RN may be required to float.

- Practices within the boundaries of the NYS Practice Act for Registered Professional Nurses.
- Provides care according to CVPH Standards of Care Practice.
- Provides nursing care to a patient by collecting data and performing a functional health pattern/physical assessment when patient is admitted, when a significant change in condition occurs, upon transfer to/receiving from another unit/ and/or every eight-hour shift; provides care to the patient requiring discharge.
- Performs nursing actions that demonstrate accountability and professionalism.
- Maintains safe environment in which to provide quality care.
- Provides leadership and measures effectiveness of nursing care by providing supervision, delegation, monitoring/reassessment of all patient care as required.
- Respects Patients’ Rights.
- Provides nursing care through the transcription and verification of physician’s orders.
- Utilizes computer technology as applicable (e.g. order entry, materials management).
- Provides nursing care through implementation of physicians’ orders.
- Provides indirect nursing care through utilization of the electronic information system.
- Provides prioritized patient/family education.
- Communicates patient care needs, care given/provided and patient responses.
- Documents patient care accurately and timely according to policy/guidelines.
- Maintains a safe infection-controlled environment.
- Provides care to patient on Infection Control isolation.
- Provides nursing care for the patient requiring peripheral venous access and IV Therapy.
- Provides nursing care to the patient requiring specimen collection.
- Provides nursing care for patient requiring oxygen saturation monitoring using the pulse oximeter and/or oxygen therapy.
- Manages medication administration checks by utilizing CVPH’s defined process.
- Provides nursing care to the patient requiring medication administration medication by the applicable routes, to include controlled substances; utilizes the pyxis system as required.
- Provides nursing care to the patient requiring bedside “Point of Care” testing at CVPH, e.g., glucose testing, stool of occult blood).
- Provides nursing care for patient requiring pain management.
- Provides nursing care to patient requiring anti-coagulation therapy.
- Provides nursing care for the patient requiring cardiac monitoring, including those with dysrhythmias or conduction disturbances.
- Provides nursing care for patient with heart failure / pulmonary edema.
- Provides nursing care to patient with acute hypertension crisis.
- Performs in crisis/emergency (e.g. code 99, 66, Rapid Response, FAST alert) while maintaining a positive/calm approach.
- Provides nursing care to patient requiring a 12-lead EKG.
- Provides nursing care to patient going to a procedural/testing area to include completion of the surgical/procedural written consent per CVPH policy and compliance with The Joint Commission Universal Protocol for procedures.
- Maintains principles of sterile/medical aseptic technique for interventional procedures in any area.
- Provides procedural equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
- Provides nursing care of patients undergoing procedures by positioning patient as per requirements/standards of CVPH.
- Provides nursing care for patient in cardiopulmonary arrest.
- Provides nursing care to the patient being discharged.
- Assumes Charge Nurse role when assigned.
- Provides nursing care for the patient requiring synchronized cardioversion.
- Provides nursing care for patient with angina.
- Provides nursing care for patient experiencing an acute myocardia infarction (MI).
- Provides nursing care for patient requiring pre and post cardiac interventions.
- Provides nursing care to the patient requiring pre and post interventional radiology interventions.
- Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing cardiac catheterization.
- Provides nursing care to patient receiving sedation analgesia.
- Provides nursing care to patient with electrolyte abnormalities.
- Provides nursing care for patient needing critical medication/drip management.
- Conducts hourly rounds as a team effort for assigned patients.
- Provides nursing care for patient transferred/admitted POST an invasive procedure.
- Provides nursing care for the patient requiring Blood/Blood Product Therapy.
- Provides nursing care to a patient with a chest tube.
- Supports fluctuation in patient care needs by floating/overtime when required.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- BLS or ACLS required with ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
- Meets requirements of physical/pre-placement screening.
- Minimum of one year of nursing experience preferred.
- Completion of Cardiac Rhythm course within 3 to 6 months required.
- Completion of Critical Care course within 3 to 6 months required.
- Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to anticipate, prioritize, perform and complete multiple job responsibilities in a timely manner.
As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
