Job description

Min Rate = $19.02 / Max Rate = $27.58 *Placement is in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Units Agreement.

 

Each Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the staff pharmacists in the various functions of the Department, including dispensing and order filling responsibilities, inventory controls, and prepackaging.

Employee cannot work more than 832 hours per calendar year.
  1. Inpatient and outpatient retrieval, and filling of medication orders for pharmacists' checking.
  2. Filling floor stock orders, code cart replacement, , and delivery responsibilities.
  3. Inventory ordering, maintenance of stock levels, and prepackaging functions.
  4. Pharmacy housekeeping responsibilities such as monitoring cleanliness of counters, refrigerators, storage units and cabinets, etc.
  5. Rotate through all work areas of the Pharmacy as appropriate
  6. Prepare medications and supplies for dispensing.
  7. Prepare and place orders of medications and other supplies from vendors, wholesalers or other hospital departments.
  8. Ensure all products received from vendors possess readable bar codes for point of care scanning and any other applications.
  9. Answers telephone in a courteous manner, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate individuals as appropriate.
  10. Screen telephone calls and troubleshoot non-clinical problems on telephone or on nursing units.
  11. Prepare deliveries for distribution to automated dispensing cabinets for checking by pharmacists.
  12. Deliver medications to automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units and procedural locations and offsite areas.
  13. Charge and credit items sent from and returned to pharmacy as appropriate.
  14. Prepare controlled substances for receipt and dispensing for verification by a pharmacist.
  15. Audit controlled substances as required.
  16. Perform monthly nursing unit inspections.
  17. Assist in training new employees.
  18. Other duties as assigned.
  1. High School Diploma (minimum) required.
  2. Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred.
  3. Must pass basic calculations competency.
  4. Computer experience preferred.
  5. Must pass basic Word competency.
  6. Must secure a Valid National Pharmacy Technician Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program within 1 year of effective hire date.
