General Summary The Solutions Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of supply chain experts that consults with customers and FedEx Supply Chain operations to understand their needs and forms a solution that can be marketed, sold, and implemented. The Manager is responsible for the full solution that encompasses engineering, operational flows, and system capabilities, ensuring the business requirements are met, with the lowest cost that meets the customer needs, operational efficiency, and productivity standards. This role will have significant exposure to executive management and is critical to the organization’s long-term profitability through active portfolio analytics and management. Primary Responsibilities Manages a team of skilled full time exempt direct reports. Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to hiring, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, staff productivity and performance management to include disciplinary actions up to and including termination. Ensures the solutions are vetted, business requirement for both internal and external customers are met and/or gaps identified with clear documentation to support FedEx Supply Chain's ability to deliver a successful implementation of business upon award. Supports the development of Statement of Work with customer, ensures customer requirements, service levels and integration point are clearly understood and communicated. Conducts customer meetings, sets and manages customer expectations by exercising moderately complex risks, issues and change management best practices. Confidently makes presentations from mid-size to large audiences at senior level positions both internal and external. Supports the IT system identification, gap analysis in relation to providing potential customers a full integrated supply chain solution. Provides guidance and consults with implementation teams that are responsible for delivering the solution to ensuring the scope of the original solution is implemented. Works with product management for input into prioritization of roadmap development as voice of the customer and ensure contracted solutions are aligned with development timelines and priorities. Responsible for pre and post sales opportunities delivering solution inputs into pricing. Sets department direction that aligns to overall FedEx Supply Chain strategies and insures timely and accurate data flow to senior management as required. Enables the team to respond to new business and customer enhancement opportunities which includes, response document and supports the inputs into pricing of strategic business solutions. Work with the Implementation and product development agile teams to define and review solution specifications for core and edge product deliverables. Understands and supports solutions by collaborating with Pricing, Implementation, IT, Engineering, Operations, and any other stakeholders to assist with answering questions to deliver the required capabilities. Works with core team to validate new business scope as it pertains to customer contract documents, technical specifications, and data analytics to ensure correct technologies are selected to support customer requirements. Communicates difficult issues and organizes the appropriate teams to work together to solve the issues quickly. Work to establish, maintain, and update strategy (methodology, processes, standards, tools, services) used in customer implementations. Plans, organizes, staffs, directs, and controls the day-to-day operations of the department; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary. Develops and manages the department budget, ensures compliance, and addresses variances and other budget concerns. Creates useful metrics to measure the team’s bandwidth, while also analyzing data to support current market trends with respect to 3PL solutions and services requested by customers. Creates tools that support decision making regarding whether or not to pursue a new business opportunity. Education/Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math required with 8-10 years of experience as minimum. In addition to minimum experience, an additional four (4) years of relevant, demonstrated experience working as a key member of a project team developing business processes, solutions, creating business requirements and delivering business capabilities will be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience in Warehouse Management Systems, Engineering, Operations flows and implementation. Experience in designing end to end solution including operational flows, engineering, systems, integration, implementation, customizations, and enhancements with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for 3PL customers. Demonstrate good understanding of the Warehouse Management related business process flows and functional capabilities. Demonstrate knowledge on the typical integrations such as between an ERP and WMS systems. Prior experience in developing solutions and cost models. Customer engagement experience for working with Internal and external customers. Knowledge and Experience developing solutions in multiple industry verticals, i.e.: Retail, Consumer, Healthcare, Technology Experience developing and presenting analysis, strategy, and findings to Senior Company Leaders Knowledge of conveyance, automatic sortation equipment, material handling equipment, and product storage systems desirable. Demonstrated ability to understand complex ideas, break them down into smaller, sequential plan, while understanding interdependencies to deliver solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Excellent stakeholder management skills with emphasis on customer service. Strong team player. Knowledge of Agile and Lean values/concepts Uses solutions-based thinking in problem solving, asking probing questions and looking for underlying issues. Strong influencing skills to guide a team to understand Product/Program Features and impact of deliverables. Working Conditions Condition will be mainly in an office environment with occasional work in warehouse environment. Also, frequent overnight travel for extended periods of time will be required.
