The Advanced Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is responsible for providing healthcare services to patients under the supervision of, and/or in collaboration with, the attending physician. These services include, but not limited to, medical evaluation, treatment, counseling, and referrals. Consists of diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic remediation, surgical assistance, and pharmaceutical prescription

As with any other health care professional, the Advanced Practitioner is charged with being a patient advocate. The Advanced Practitioner will participate in patient satisfaction, quality, and performance improvement initiatives.

St. Luke's Center for Perioperative Medicine : The advanced practitioner will provide comprehensive patient care within the Center for Perioperative Medicine. Phases of care will include medical oversight of perioperative assessment as well as perioperative and postoperative medical support as necessary at the request of the primary surgical team. This continuum of care represents a mix of both outpatient and inpatient encounters. The practitioner will work with the oversight and full support of a physician and program director; however, the applicant should have the ability to work with their own independent panel of patients. Preoperative assessments are critical to optimizing patients’ surgical outcomes in both quality and experience and as such the position values attention to detail in chart review of patient’s medical and social history as well as excellence in timely and detailed documentation, patient interview and exam skills. Interpersonal and communication skills are vital as you will work as part of a team interacting with surgery, anesthesia, and primary care providers in the optimization of patients for surgery. Additionally, you will have a team of nursing and social work support to assist in the throughput of patients along the surgical pathway. Clinical experience or familiarity with outpatient primary care, cardiology, pulmonology, or critical care would be ideal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be board eligible or board-Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Medical Physician Assistant with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania or New Jersey, as determined by the job location.

Although one year experience in a similar setting is preferred, new grads are encouraged to apply!

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting for up to 5 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Standing for up to 5 hours per day, 2 hours at a time. Walking for up to 3 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Fingering and handling small objects frequently. Twisting and turning of hand occasionally. Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transport patients weighing up to 250 lbs via wheel chair or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as is relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.
