Summary of Job This position provides technical support and coordination for all services and users in all locations by answering questions, troubleshooting problems, maintaining workstation, and LAN performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Network Management: - Performs network troubleshooting to isolate, diagnose, and correct common problems.
- Configures network printing and file services, directory structures, and rights on file servers.
- Establishes and maintains user profiles, user environments, and user security for networks.
- Monitors networks to ensure reliability and efficient communications.
- Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots network operations.
- Administers, configures, and maintains City's phone system.
- Administers and troubleshoots problems with communications protocols such as Ethernets, Fiber Optics, Wireless and others.
- Maintain backup/recovery and virus protection procedures for personal computers.
- Formulates procedures and practices to assure acceptable network system performance.
- Installs, configures, tests, and maintains all network infrastructure devices, software, and peripheral equipment.
- Performs necessary maintenance to ensure reliability and efficiency.
PC Management: - Installs and upgrades personal computer and network hardware and software components as required.
- Analyzes and documents user requirements and recommends hardware and software alternatives.
- Establishes and maintains hardware/software standards.
- Maintains PC-based application software versions.
Technical Support: - Assists technical support for hardware and communications for all servers, networking components (switches, routers, cabling, etc.), workstations, telephone system, cellular telephones, pagers, fax machines, and copiers at various workstations.
- Responds to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and the operation of various software packages.
- Provides user support with PC-based application software.
Additional Functions: - Help to develop Information Technology policies and assist in monitoring for compliance.
- Assists in developing user training.
- Performs anti-virus checking.
- Assists in creating documentation.
- Prepares correspondence.
- Provides administration of, and reports compliance with, all PC and network related procedures and policies throughout the City of Menasha.
- Assists in training on PC hardware and software as appropriate.
- Rotate being on-call with other staff and contracted services provider.
- May install network components/cables in confined spaces.
- Attends meetings, as required.
- Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.
- Responsible for audio/visual equipment for Common Council meetings.
- Responsible for audio/visual equipment for various other meetings, as requested.
Qualifications - Requires associate degree in computer science or related field with at least two or more years network administration and support experience OR any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge and skills associated with internet access, Microsoft Office for Windows, and Windows applications in a PC environment.
- Experience with Windows and SQL servers.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with network and PC users, department personnel and technical service representatives.
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity requirement in situations involving the direction, control and planning of an entire program or multiple programs.
- Skill in maintaining an effective working relationship with the City Council, elected officials, employees, vendors and the general public.
- Ability to work and maintain confidential data.
- Ability to perform job functions and responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Ability to apply logic, establish facts and interpret information.
- Ability to perform mathematical operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculating percentages, fractions, and decimals.
- Remains knowledgeable of advances in technology.
- Attends technical conferences and seminars to maintain knowledge of network software and hardware product developments.
- Report for work as scheduled.
- Must pass criminal background check for both City and the Police Department.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid State of Wisconsin driver's license.
