Western State Hospital is seeking a full tie Forensic Psychiatrist.


The hospital is well regarded locally and across the state, has provided consultation or working tours to seven other states regarding our Psychosocial Rehab "mall" programs, effectively recruits and retains professional staff, and works actively within the hospital and with our community partners to produce good clinical and quality of life outcomes for individuals.

Our strategic philosophy is to provide valued service, to look forward and anticipate challenges and opportunities, to actively educate the public, and to be open and welcoming to the media.

Our services include Admissions and Psychosocial Rehab, Special programs for Deaf and a Med/Psych unit.

Primary care services provided by Primary Care Physicians, NP's and PA's. All physicians are board certified and most have faculty appointment at University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences. (Eligibility/Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology preferred.)

Western State Hospital maintains collaboration with UVA, training residents/medical students and recruiting psychiatrists into public sector mental health. Faculty provide supervision to students and residents, participate in residency training/education committees, and provide lectures to medical students on rotation, and participate in core didactic presentations in residency programs at UVA.

Minimum Qualifications


Completion of approved medical school and residency in psychiatry. License to practice medicine in Virginia.


Additional Considerations


Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology preferred. Bi-lingual Spanish and English are a plus.
