Job description

Provides the full range of advising services for undergraduate majors with increasing enrollment, majors within the Computer Science Department, including Computer Science, Computer Science with Business Applications, Data Science, and the Computer Engineering program. The incumbent will provide in-person, virtual, and email advising, triage student needs, cultivate a welcoming environment, build rapport, pose probing questions to assess each student's unique needs and extenuating circumstances. The incumbent will demonstrate a developmental advising approach in directly addressing each student's unique needs or referring students to appropriate campus service provider. The incumbent will also perform secondary roles working under the guidance of a lead Advisor or the Director, contributing to college-wide student success or advising processes involving the entire advising team, i.e., new student orientations, graduation processing, change of major processing, etc. Additionally, with growth in the position, the incumbent may be assigned a secondary role coordinating a student success activity or process supporting the advising function. The incumbent will use independent judgement to identify and resolve manageable issues, and seek guidance on issues with larger implications; the incumbent will identify and report issues with larger implications to Lead Advisor or the Directors in a timely manner.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position.
