i3 is looking for Graphic Designer to help craft crisp 2D elements, clean UI, on-brand motion graphics, and more for its Virtual Training, Simulation, and Gaming business.

As a Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for a variety of digital products based in the Unity game engine. You will work with highly skilled and motivated delivery teams made of Software Engineers, 3D artists, and Tech Leads to imagine, test, build, and deploy multi-platform, customer facing software — and have a blast doing it. It’s energizing. And it’s good work.

This position is located at either our Huntsville or Orlando offices with the option of hybrid work.

All positions are contingent upon contract award expected Jan/Feb 2024.

i3’s ideal candidate is responsible for supporting all kinds of design efforts of these digital products, validating their efforts with the Creative Director and other designers within Creative Operations regularly to accomplish this. They are responsible for the accurate implementation of their eventual designs into the Unity game engine, as well, and work closely with the Software Engineers to ensure this.

Our ideal candidate workshops their efforts with the Creative Director and Creative Operations team weekly to ensure their designs and implementations are cohesive. They’re cool to hang with critique and can pick up brand standards and iterate on them easily.

Our ideal also candidate has a portfolio that demonstrates the core competencies of a graphic designer. In fact, it is required that you submit an online portfolio and/or website of your work with your application .

While the best portfolios typically display a proficiency in web design and mobile apps, other efforts in motion graphics, branding and logomark design, high-profile print design, marketing projects with whiz-bang design efforts, collaborations with other folks, and video work all won’t hurt. We also recommend case studies and galleries with lots of pretty pictures. Impress us.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with software engineers and other stakeholders.
• Illustrate design ideas using wireframes, process flows, and sitemaps as needed.
• Successfully apply those wireframes, process flows, and sitemaps to create prototypes, mockups, and final compositions to show and demonstrate designs.
• Craft simple motion graphics and ensure implementation by software engineers is solid.
• Specialization in one or more areas of design, such as user experience (UX) design, user interface (UI) design, visual design, interaction design, user research and analysis, or product development
• Design for desktop-based and/or tablet-based UIs
• Prepare and help guide software engineers on the implementation of UI/UX designs into Unity.
• Provide feedback to developers as designs are implemented to ensure user experience is cohesive and accurate.
• Regularly workshop efforts with the Creative Director and the Creative Operations team to maintain a cohesive design and user experience of the digital product.
• Leverage design thinking and questioning techniques to develop strategies where pathways are not always clear.

Required experience, skills, and traits:

• Bachelors’ Degree plus at least one (1) year experience in graphic design (such as web, mobile, motion graphics, branding and logo design, etc.). Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree. 
• Working knowledge and skill in design tools, for example, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite products, as well as optional (but not required; see Preferred below) prototyping tool like Sketch, Figma, Balsamic, etc.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across audiences at various levels of understanding.
• Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
• Ability to work with other designers and developers to implement new ideas.

Preferred experience, skills, and traits:

• Understanding of foundational design principles and practices, typography and color, and multi-device usability standards.
• Collaboration with system and software engineers on UI implementation.
• Working knowledge and/or understanding of prototyping tools like Sketch, Figma, Balsamic, etc.
• Experience outside UI/UX that demonstrates a variability of design skills.
• Understanding and appreciation of standard user interface design concepts.
