Salary Range: $25.53 - $34.47 Hourly
Job Summary:
The City of Greeley is seeking an Asset Technician to join the Urban & Regional Planning division of the Public Works Department. The Asset Technician is responsible for aiding in the creation and maintenance of database of infrastructure services that Public Works is responsible for; digitizing maps; spreadsheet data entry; preparing digital data and map products for special projects; capital improvement projects; and infrastructure system management; etc. The incumbent supports the management of the asset and maintenance management software, and maintains, updates, and supports database and inventory records for all department resources that include both infrastructure (e.g., traffic signal equipment, irrigation, lighting, etc. (e.g., equipment and repair parts).
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate's degree (two-year degree) in GIS or related field, or completion of a certification program of comparable length
- Certification in GIS required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
PREFERRED: - Six months to one (1) year of experience reading and interpreting construction drawings
- Six months (6) to one (1) year of experience working with cartographic rules and principles
- Working understanding of public infrastructure is preferred
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
- Assist in day-to-day operations of the existing Public Works GIS/Asset Management program
- Accurately and completely enters data into a computer system using keyboards, scanners, Trimble GPS receivers, and/or digitizer equipment
- Communicate in person and by telephone with both individuals and groups
- Uses and interprets blueprints, schematics, layouts, maps, and other visual aids
- Receives and interprets instructions and assignments, written or verbal, and produces desired product
- Uses GIS tools in conjunction with map graphics, map scale, and real-world coordination systems, develops and maintains GIS map products
- Operates a variety of computer equipment and software packages
- Tracks and captures data associated with utility systems
- Works in alignment with guidance of the Asset Management Team to maintain existing or create new data set
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work Environment: - Subject to both outside and inside environment with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- Subject to driving City vehicle in all weather conditions.
- May be asked to drive a personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Subject to working alone and/or with groups and/or attending meetings.
- May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
- May be required to wear protective clothing or gear.
- May be required to travel with associated risks inherent to travel by car/air.
- Spends extended periods of time at fixed workstation.
- May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
- May be required to work overtime.
- Frequent interruptions and required to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.
- May have frequent contact with the public--in person, via email/telephone; sometimes facing adverse or confrontational situations with internal/external customers.
- Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions--as in typical office or administrative work. Work performed is mainly sedentary in an office environment.
Physical Requirements: - The essential functions of this job require occasional balancing, bending/stooping, carrying/lifting light to heavy objects, and standing; frequent climbing stairs, feeling, grasping, hearing, reaching, repetitive motion, talking, and walking; continuously fingering.
- Close visual acuity required to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data/figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading of printed materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices--graphs and gauges; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Visual acuity for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Visual acuity required to perform an activity such as: operating machinery where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
- Visual acuity required to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Visual acuity required to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, general labor, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures for inspection purposes.
