Summary:  Prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies using a variety of radioisotope equipment. Prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate doses to be administered by radiologists. Subject patients to radiation. Execute blood volume, red cell survival, and fat absorption studies following standard laboratory techniques.

Education: Associates Degree and/or Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology 

Experience: Must have at least one (2) year experience operating imaging equipment, preparing radioactive drugs and administration.

Essential Job Functions: 

• Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in preparation and diagnostic or therapeutic studies, utilizing a variety of equipment and following prescribed state and NRC procedures

• Ensures proper administration of diagnostic and therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals to patients.

• Ensures proper administration of intravenous catheter placement for high volume cardiology patients.

• Prepares patients and assists in monitoring baseline and exercise EKG rhythm as well as blood pressure recording during stress procedures.

• Implements and maintains radiation safety techniques when dosing patients and disposing of radioactive materials.

• Performs daily, weekly, and monthly quality control for camera and dose calibrator accuracy.

• Performs a variety of tasks while promoting staff communication to provide quality patient care.

• Maintain record requirements such as quarterly reviews, i.e. linearity, sealed source inventory, sealed source leak test, and the like for inspection by the state of Georgia.

• Responsible for obtaining and securing according to HIPAA regulation patient history, review, and organization of medication, blood pressures, EKG, and other vital signs.

• Accurately position patients for resting and stress gated images to ensure qualitative data for cardiology physicians.

• Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.

• Accomplish computer processing and image enhancement.

• Perform patient imaging procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation.

• Provide basic life support services when needed.  Secure and assist with advanced life support services, where indicated.

• Provide for the patient’s physical safety and well-being while he/she is under the technologist’s care. 

• Visually assess the quality of processed studies for judgment decisions concerning film quality.

• Manipulate the mechanical and electronic instrumentation used in the laboratory.

• Manipulate the relatively massive physical barriers used as shielding in the laboratory.

• Administers Reclast infusions intravenously.

• Provides appropriate Pre-infusion instructions for the staff to provide to the patient prior to the Reclast appointment. 

• Corresponds with the Referral Specialist to insure the Reclast visit has been approved by insurance.

• Documents that the Reclast infusion has been completed in patient chart.

• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines

• Communicates effectively by telephone and to the patient at his/her level of understanding

• Promotes positive public relations to patients, visitors, families, physicians, and others.

• Physical appearance and conduct is consistent with acceptable professional ethics and CPC standards.

• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her supervisor.

Equipment Operated: Will use basic office equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, and fax machine.  

Work Environment: Well-lit medical office environment.

Mental/Physical Requirements: 

Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs.
