Job description

Job Summary: The Children Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the children ministry, working with staff and volunteers in a hospitable manner. The position reports to the Director of Faith Formation and operates under some supervision with latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative. Essential Job Duties: Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Helen Catholic Church in both professional and personal life. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Continuously grow in ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed. Provide, in a pleasant and professional manner, a hospitable welcome to all staff, volunteers, and visitors in order to create a welcoming, open, and helpful atmosphere. Coordinate children ministry events that inspire and motivate students and parents to participate in the life of the parish. Research, suggest, and implement curriculum for children ministry. Prepare and coordinate sacramental process for children ministry students. Recruit, train, and assist volunteers involved in children ministry. Make rooms available to students and volunteers and ensure rooms are left in order. Plan, organize, and direct yearly Vacation Bible School. Ensure that families and volunteers are given up to date information in a timely manner. Assist catechists with research, acquiring substitute Catechists, and providing materials for classroom projects. Collaborate with Faith Formation Staff on various events. Ensure Diocesan policy is followed and executed in all areas of children ministry especially as applies to EIM. Assist with and attend special liturgical celebrations as required. Maintains availability throughout the week in order to serve the needs of the parish to include pastor, staff, and volunteers during and outside of normal church office hours; weekends and some evenings will be required. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Trainings: High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency. Hold or be working towards certifications as required by the Austin Diocese Office of Evangelization and Catechesis and The Austin Diocese Office of Youth Ministry. Experience: Two (2) years of experience in catechetical leadership or liturgy or similar. Language: Proficiency in both English and Spanish.
