What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Operations Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Operations Specialist 2 ($75,100- $119,200)
Utilities and Infrastructure (UI) has a great opportunity for an Operations Specialist. The selected candidate will support the Traffic and Open Space Manager in the areas of grounds maintenance. The candidate will serve as back-up for the facility supervisor program and will be responsible for tracking and monitoring traffic operations.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Support Traffic Operations.
Open Space Management.
Review and provide suggestions regarding institutional procedures, parking, laydown space, activities for new construction.
Identify areas related to paving that need improvement and submit facility service requests (FSR).
Work with craft superintendents to prioritize work.
Operations Specialist 3 ($81,700 - $133,100)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will be required to assist the Traffic and Open Space Manager in the areas of snow planning, laydown yard management, event notifications and traffic communications. The selected candidate at this level will be required to participate in the UI Duty Officer program.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Expertise: Ability to interpret various mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Working knowledge to conceptualize and communicate major elements of operations, processes, and equipment to both technical and non- technical personnel.
Communication: Skill in the preparation and presentation of operations reports.
Problem Solving: Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting operations and administration in creative ways for complex problems.
Additional Job Requirements for Operations Specialist 3:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Technical Expertise: Expert experience with computerized maintenance management systems or work control systems. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of new theories and methods as a process improvement.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge in the preparation and presentation of operations reports.
Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to work independently. Working experience inspecting, supervising and/or coordinating craft work on construction and maintenance projects.
Education/Experience at Operations Specialist 2: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Operations Specialist 3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Desired Qualifications:
Advanced experience in conducting research, developing alternative solutions, and developing solutions on problems affecting operations and administration in creative ways for complex problems.
Expert experience with computerized maintenance management systems or work control systems.
Knowledge of or acting as Duty Officer Program.
Advanced understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
APWA certification in snow removal planning.
Experience with Public Works, Parks, or Grounds.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Walking and lifting 20-30 pounds.
Work Schedule: 9/80 schedule is typical.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
