Job description
Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of overall nursing care to patients. Provides managerial support in conjunction with the Program Director by providing supervision and evaluation of all nursing and patient care personnel in the Program. Contributes to the Program, nursing and hospital through commitment to nursing goals, the supervision of clinical staff, and participation in the community relations program. The Nurse Manager reports administratively to the program director and clinically, to the Vice President of Behavioral Health.
Authority: The Nurse Manager shall have the authority to assume the responsilities of the inpatient department in the absence of the Program Director as well as the responsibilities of the BH Intake Department in the absence of the Intake Director. Shall have the authority to communicate with appropriate personnel regarding patient care and staff issues.
Job Relationships: - Supervises RNs, LPNs, Behavioral Health Technicians, and Unit Secretaries

- Acute Medical and Emergency Department Staff
- Ancillary Staff (Radiology, Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, Social Services, Physical Therapy, Housekeeping, Laboratory, Maintenance)

Functions and Duties: - Maintain current knowledge of trends in area of expertise.
- Performs efficiently in emergency situations setting an example for staff.
- Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights as identified within the hospital.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, well organized and function under stressful situations.
- Participates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement activities.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient and staff information.
- Participates actively in staff development activities to enhance professional growth for self and staff.
- Actively participates in staff meetings.
- Facilitates the maintenance of a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment.
- Communicates patient, physician, and personnel issues clearly to the Nurse Manager.
- Maintains compliance with all hospital policy and procedures.
- Participates in the evaluation and completion of annual performance evaluations.
- Facilitates the completion of payroll and nurse scheduling.
- Maintains staff's competencies files and assists in the planning and completion of unit specific competencies.
- Teach courses and provide training to licensed and unlicensed nurses.
- Incorporate evidence-based research into educational plans, patient treatment plans, and nursing practices.
- Promote critical thinking among nurses, and show commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.
- Participate in a 24-hour call process to handle emergency situations.
- Recruit, interview and recommend qualified nursing staff for the Program.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for the Illinois Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code Follow voluntary and emergency admission by certificate aka involuntary procedure/process.
- Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, families and friends.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality; and protects operations by keeping patient and program information confidential.
- Operate within ethical standards.
- Ensure operations of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; calling for repairs; and evaluating new equipment and techniques
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education
- Graduation from an NLN-accredited school of nursing. Possession of BSN preferred.
- Current licensure in State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse.
Experience
- Two years experience in specialty area. Previous leadership experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Current CPRcertification
- Current CPI (or equivalent) certification, or within six months of hire, where applicable
