Physical Therapist
Allied / Privileged
Currently recruiting a Physical Therapist (PT) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to work at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Mobile Diving & Salvage Unit #1. The Physical Therapist will be a part of an elite team of human performance professional working to optimize the resilience of U.S. Special Operations Forces. The Physical Therapist (PT) is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between 7:300AM and 8:00PM. Occasional travel up to 10% may be expected. Full benefits, including 17 days did vacation/sick leave and 10 paid Federal holidays.
DUTIES OF THE PHYSICAL THERAPIST (PT):
Provide a level of productivity comparable to that of other Physical Therapists assigned to the MTF, and region as applicable, and authorized the same scope of practice.
Provide appropriate therapeutic procedures and provide a full range of therapy services in support of patient referrals from the following specialties: Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, General Medicine and Surgery, Primary Care Clinic, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Rheumatology, and other referrals approved by Department Head/Division Officer.
All patient contact and care shall be safe, timely, result in achievement of realistic and documented treatment goals, and comply with or satisfy the intent of the referring medical staff. Contact referring medical provider regarding patient care concerns, as required.
Administer comprehensive physical therapy evaluation, planning, and treatment of all age groups for individuals with impairments in their neuromusculoskeletal, functional capacity, and/or respiratory and circulatory efficiency as outlined in the scope of practice and individual provider credentials for this MTF.
Administer treatments involving application of compression therapy and various physical agent modalities supported at the MTF and within the individual providers credentials. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
Observe patients during treatments and discuss progress with clinical support staff in order to compile and evaluate data on patients' response and progress with treatments, and change treatment plan accordingly.
Document assessments, tests, treatments and progress in the medical record at each visit. Record alterations of treatment plans and patient's reactions as needed. Document actions taken such as patient history, patient evaluation, treatments/adjustments, discharge recommendations, unusual occurrences, and morbidity in accordance with the MTF operating procedures.
Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modification as required.
Confer with members of the physical therapy staff, staff physicians, other departments, and other rehabilitation team members. Either individually, in conference or through various approved electronic means, to exchange, discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment programs in order to provide complete care to patients.
Provide orientation, direction, oversight, and instruction to Physical therapists, Physical Therapy assistants, military technicians, other therapy staff (as needed for cross training purposes), general duty corpsman, therapy aides, and volunteers/students in accordance with departmental standard operating procedure (SOP) and direction from supervisors/leadership.
Act as a clinical instructor for physical therapy and other health care students assigned to the department. Plan and conduct lectures and training programs on physical therapy related subjects for staff, students and patients. Provide input and attend rehabilitation team meetings, seminars, and quality assurance meetings.
Participate in gathering data for command approved, clinically focused military research projects that have been granted proper Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. Participation will not divert expected productivity requirements of the HCW.
Participate in peer review activities.
Maintain department records and files in accordance with facility policies. Perform coding of patient encounters and workload timekeeping requirements as directed. Document, unusual occurrences and morbidity in accordance with MTF operating procedures.
Perform clinically based clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, filling out forms, and scheduling/dispositioning patients.
Provide expert musculosketal injury and rehabilitative care utilizing approved supplemental clinical privileges including the ordering of imaging studies and referrals to specialty providers. Conduct up-to-date evidence-based treatments for a variety of MSK conditions of the spine, joints and myofascial, to include maintaining proficiency in dry needling.
Maintain and care for department equipment and supplies and storage. Prepare treatment areas for incoming patients. Transport patients to department and prepare patients and equipment for treatment.
Attend meetings, complete administrative tasks and participate in departmental processes as directed by leadership.
Shall be capable of meeting the physical requirements if training with the EOD/Diver personnel. This includes the ability to hike over rough terrain in austere environments to observe training evolutions, the ability to assist with strength and training protocols, and able to repeatedly lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 55 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PHYSICAL THERAPIST (PT):
Possess and maintain a certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as either an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) or Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS).
Possess and maintain certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Have a minimum of three-years of full-time experience administering physical therapy interventions on Special Operations personnel, Division 1 college athletes, Olympic Athletes, or professional athletes.
Possess one year of experience as a CSCS working with Special Operations personnel, Division 1 college athletes, Olympic athletes, or professional athletes.
Must be a graduate of a Physical Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a physical therapist.
Possess and maintain Basic Life Support certification.
U.S. Citizen (required for access to Government computer systems).
Ability to be granted a Secret Security clearance.
Must possess a valid US passport.
