Franciscan Medical Group, as part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is seeking a full-time Financial Analyst I for the Franciscan Medical Group Finance department in Tacoma, WA. Excellent team-based work environment, flexible work schedule. Part time remote options available after training period is complete. No weekends or organizationally recognized holidays required. 

Job Summary:

This job is responsible for performing a variety of moderately complex financial analysis procedures to track financial performance against business plans/budgets and develop analyses/forecasts and accurate reports providing actionable data to support management in making informed tactical and strategic decisions.  Work includes:  1) analyzing operating records, and financial statements to determine current and forecast future financial performance; 2) preparing/presenting financial data to management for review and subsequent decision-making; 3) preparing financial statements and related documents; 4) assisting with the operating/capital budget processes; and 5) coordinating special projects to analyze the impact of financial actions on downstream reporting systems.  

Work requires knowledge of the standards and practices relative to the finance/accounting disciplines, as well as expertise in the collection, analysis, and communication of statistical data and results.  Application of sound financial analysis techniques (e.g. data-driven analysis, consistency of methodology, clarity of linkages between findings and recommendations, etc.) is also required.

Essential Duties: 

Performs a variety of financial analysis activities to monitor, including financial modeling, forecasting and reporting, in support of CHI Franciscan business/financial operations and planning; assures the development of timely, accurate and objective analyses for all assigned projects.   

• Chooses best way to display data to maximize understanding of the concepts and impact of the information; prepares graphs, tables, charts, dashboards, and reports from various data sources (extracted from automated systems and report-writing applications) to present/summarize data, forecasts and projections.
• Prepares monthly analyses to monitor financial performance by clinic, service line, provider and/or account; identifies errors; provides explanations and rectifies issues (within scope of position).
• Gathers data and produces profit analysis reports on new ventures being considered; models pro formas as well as provider salary and other relevant data.
• Prepares ROI analyses for proposed capital projects.
• Performs sensitivity analyses on operating and underlying assumptions such as modifications of charge rates.
• Prepares schedules to support Certificate of Need filings with State of Washington.
• Presents results to high-level authority for review and final decision.
• Maintains accurate list of AU and accounts for assigned entity.

Meets with department/clinic/service line managers and other stakeholders to develop historical and forecasted financial statements based on past performance and other relevant factors; prepares and distributes periodic standard and ad hoc reports per established procedures.

• Provides basic training on variance analysis and assists stakeholders with access to data in formulating variance explanations.
• Assures that appropriate indicators (e.g. access, referral volume trends, service volume data, productivity data, etc.) are incorporated into analyses that inform resource allocation, business/operating planning and related activities.
• Presents financial analyses/data in a clear and unambiguous manner; identifies and discusses trends/patterns and responds to questions within scope of position.

Documents financial analysis activities and source information and properly references work flow and calculations utilizing lead schedules.

• Assists in the preparation of final documentation for presentations to senior management and other interested parties.

Participates in the annual budgeting process, preparing budget information based on historical data and working with managers to develop department budgets.

• Develops moderately complex budget and financial statements using high-level assumptions.
• May participate in capital budget preparation as assigned.

Participates in special and/or long-term projects, as assigned; identifies/accesses source information and other resources required; considers the impact of changes to existing systems; investigates and rectifies issues and creates checking mechanisms to prevent errors.

• Considers impact of changes to other downstream reporting systems with all annual updates.
• Prepares Board financials and other statistical and graphic information.

Performs related duties as required.

Education/Work Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, financial management, accounting or related field that demonstrates the attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities, and two years of progressively responsible related professional work experience.

• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
