This position will identify and initiate tactical and strategic activities across the supply chain, including process development, process execution , and improvement, maintaining and optimizing asset usage for shipments involving trucking and rail carriers. The position manages all rail operations in the service area and ensures that a high quality of safe, on-time and clean transportation service is rendered to the community.
Position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time.
- Responsible for comprehensive oversight and cost-effective and efficient rail operatons to include monitoring and tracking rail car locations, rail logistics, shippers, carriers, and volumes.
- Responsible for cost-effective training of field rail personnel
- Directs the scheduling of daily transportation operations and ensures compliance with operating policies, regulations, and work rules
- Liaisons with maintenance staff to ensure that a reliable train fleet is provided for services
- Develop, maintain, monitor and update shipping schedules
- Research and resolve shipping issues associated with rejected, bad order or overweight cars
- Maintain, develop and grow business relationships with key rail carriers
- Monitor and resolve issues with equipment conditions and effect repairs when needed so as not to impact schedules
- Demonstrated proficiency with shipping documents
- Railcar maintenance, shipment tracking and fleet balancing
- Railcar registrations and fleet management software upkeep
- Assist with rail equipment lease negotiations and procurement (cars and locomotives)
- Assist with the development of rail infrastructure needs/procurement of equipment
- Routinely interface with applicable management to provide updated status reports and schedule changes
- Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field is preferred; or, a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience
- Five (5) years of recent rail transit and rail logistics experience is required
- Strong ability to professionally interact with a variety of team members and business affiliates
- Proficiency in corporate-level business management concepts, including but not limited to, accounting and finance. Management experience strongly preferred
- Self-motivation, willingness to proactively pursue and acquire the expertise necessary to complete the position’s purpose. Ability to self-educate and achieve competency with complex business and technical concepts
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Strong ability to work both autonomously and with active management involvement
- Ability to communicate, listen, and understand information to ensure full comprehension of job duties, safety regulations, and other situations that may require an immediate response
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
- Forward-thinker who anticipates multiple outcomes of a given supply chain process and ensures efficiency by creating an adaptable plan
- Demonstrates attention to detail, ability to drive results
- Experience with RFP processes related to transportation needs
- Experience with Ship CSX
- This position requires working in an internal environment as well as an external construction environment
- Be subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
- This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required
