YOU
The Director, Software Architecture, for the Building Technology division, helps formulate, execute and lead the digital transformation across all Simpson Strong-Tie software divisions, and is responsible for directing architecture to support and grow market share. You will work with some of the industry's most accomplished solution architects to help deliver the best-in-class tools that power the construction industry.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Lead Software Architectural Transformation (50%)
Develop the technical roadmap to drive the evolution of our platform towards cloud native architectures to reduce cost, improve speed to market and ensure quality.
Establish and socialize best practices and regarding the development of new services with a focus on scalability, performance, and security.
Provide direction to a team of architects, leading by example and providing guidance to software development teams.
Define/Manage Design Standards (30%)
Develop architecture standards, technical documentation, design plans, and guidelines for team members to implement.
Provide technical guidance and leadership in capturing both technical requirements and level of effort for new product development.
Ensure alignment to the long term Architectural vision in the design and architecture decisions for all software solutions and will be responsible for the technical design of these systems.
Establish the standards and criteria in documenting how our systems work and key technical design decisions.
Become a Technology Evangelist (20%)
Identify and manage prospective solution providers to determine joint ventures based on technology synergies.
Maintain a technology roadmap by introducing new technologies and approaches.
Assess and report on new technologies and/or partners that can augment our existing products or add to our technical capabilities.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
If you can do everything listed above, you've got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or technology, information systems or software engineering course of study or relevant experience required.
10+ years of core software architecture role, designing and leading software architects and working alongside development teams.
7+ years of experience with cloud-native architecture. Preferred experience with using Microsoft Azure as the cloud provider
Experience with digital transformation including modernization of on-premises applications to cloud required
Practical experience with modern architecture styles including microservices, message/event-driven architecture and data modelling with SQL databases required
5+ years of hands-on experience developing and implementing Software Development Life Cycle best practices across a large organization in areas such architecture, feature development, TDD, test automation, DevOps, delivery, documentation and processes.
Communication: Ability to write in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
Attention to Detail: Ability to diligently attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks.
Relationship building: Ability to maintain an open, approachable manner, and treat others respectfully. Work collaboratively with employees within department and across functions.
Coaching and Mentoring: Ability to create an environment that allows staff to feel motivated to work and interact.
Leadership: Ability to set clear, meaningful, challenging, and attainable goals.

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. are frequently used.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
This job requires approximately 20% domestic travel.
WORK STATUS & LOCATION
This exempt position will report to our VP Building Technology Digital Development and can work remotely from a US location or in one of our physical locations in Texas, California, Colorado, or Indiana. We're looking for someone to join our team immediately.
RELOCATION
Relocation is not available for this position.
PAY
$131,500.00 - $ 213,000.00 / year
* Posted pay range is based upon national average and may vary depending on geographical work location.
