Wellness and Fitness Specialist, Cornell Wellness

Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Cornell Wellness reports up to SCL through the Department of Athletics and Physical Education (A&PE). A&PE offers a diverse program of physical and outdoor education, recreational services, intramural sports and intercollegiate athletic competition, plus Wellness programs for faculty and staff and fitness centers for the entire Cornell community. Cornell Recreational Services is situated directly under the A&PE Department and offers a wide variety of fitness, wellness, sports and open recreation activities for Cornell students, staff, faculty, retirees and their spouses/partners. Through broad-based programs, Cornell Recreational Services promotes healthy and holistic lifestyles throughout the campus community.

Cornell Wellness is a unit situated directly under the Recreational Services department umbrella, with additional dotted line reporting directly under HR's department of workforce wellbeing umbrella. Wellness staff are a dynamic team that as a whole provide educational opportunities to the Cornell community (staff, faculty, retirees, and their spouses/partners) that empower individuals to make healthy choices for themselves.

The Wellness and Fitness Specialist focuses on the development and delivery of fitness related services and programs that are open to the Cornell community and delivered through multiple means including in-person, Zoom, email, and social media. This work includes oversight of approximately 8 part-time group exercise instructors and 15 group exercise classes per week, which are delivered in-person and through Zoom. Additional responsibilities include providing individual fitness consultations, delivering workshops, assisting with strategic projects, and more. This role is an essential part of the University's commitment to supporting the overall health and wellness of staff, faculty, and retirees who continually contribute in multiple ways towards the student experience.

This position is an on-campus (Ithaca, NY) position with the possibility of working one day per week remotely. Typical workdays and hours are M-F 8am-4:30pm. Must occasionally (approx. 4-6x/yr) work evenings, early mornings, and weekends.

This position is a 1-year fixed-term position; ability to extend the term is dependent on business need, continued funding and performance.

Required Qualifications:

• Associates degree in a fitness/health/wellness related field.
• One or more years of group exercise experience with emphasis on supervising group exercise instructors and/or leading group exercise classes.
• One or more years of experience providing individual fitness and general wellness consultations, with ability to create and demonstrate exercise training programs.
• Group exercise certification/s such as yoga, Pilates, Spin, Ballet, etc.
• Personal trainer certification from ACE, NASM, ACSM, or equivalent certification level.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification at start of employment, or within 60 days of start of employment.
• American Red Cross Instructor certification at start of employment, or within 6 months of start of employment.
• Proficiency with Outlook, Zoom, and the Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
• Experience with delivering classes/programs through multiple means (in-person, Zoom, video, social media).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Supervisory experience of employees.
• Experience working in a university or college setting.
• Experience with Sharepoint, Google Docs, Registration databases, Membership databases, and Canva.
