In 2023-2024 the School’s annual budget is $27 million which is supported by an endowment which totaled $29.5 million in November 2023.  In 2023-2024 approximately $7.6 million in financial aid was awarded, with significant support coming from fundraising income, including Pennsylvania’s EITC and OSTC programs.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer serves on the senior leadership team and is responsible for budgeting,  planning, accounting, and reporting of income, expenses, and contributed and invested funds of the school. The CFOO oversees and collaborates with staff members in the Business Office and Facilities departments. As a key member of the school’s leadership team, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer attends all Board of Trustees meetings and serves as the  lead liaison for the Board’s Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees and serves on the Buildings & Grounds Committee.

THE POSITION
The Chief Financial and Operations Officer reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for providing financial and operational direction and oversight for the School. As an officer of the Corporation, leader of the School’s Business Office, and member of the senior leadership team, Moravian Academy’s CFOO works collaboratively with the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff to develop and implement key financial initiatives in support of the mission of the School.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong business acumen and a deep understanding of the complex array of factors that can affect an institution’s financial strength and long-term sustainability. The CFOO serves as a trusted advisor to the Head of School, providing in depth analysis and strategic recommendations
regarding the finance and operations of the school to ensure continued long term sustainability for an institution that is nearing its 300th anniversary.


The CFOO is responsible for managing and overseeing the School’s financial management practices and short and long-term financial planning and investment strategies with a high degree of efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The CFOO oversees the Business Office staff, Director of Human Resources, Technology Department and Director of Facilities and Plant Operations. In addition, the CFOO oversees the outsourced contracts for security and food service.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Moravian Academy salaries are competitive and based on years of experience and expertise. Our generous benefit package includes retirement, health insurance, PTO, and 20 days of vacation annually in addition to one week of spring break and half of the winter break. The Academy’s retirement plan through TIAA pays 8% of salary or wages when eligible employees contribute 5% of their salary or wages. Full time employees are eligible to enroll in the Group Medical and Prescription Healthcare Program offered by the school through the PAISBOA consortium.The Academy financially supports the
continuing professional development of its faculty and administrators. 100% tuition remission is available to children of senior leadership team members who attend Moravian Academy.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES
The successful candidate to become the next CFOO will be an experienced business and financial leader who understands complex systems and has a mindset for understanding how to structure a small, dedicated staff to accomplish the goals associated with the School’s business and operations. The individual will embody and demonstrate most, if not all, of the following qualities, competencies, characteristics, and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree and ten years of business or school finance experience. A CPA or Master’s Degree in accounting, business, finance or related field preferred.
- Strong financial acumen, gifted in both annual budgeting and financial forecasting and planning.
- A compassionate leader with high emotional intelligence.
- Ability to manage the Academy’s financial and business policies and procedures and the Business Office staff that oversee Accounts Receivable/Student Billing, Accounts Payable, Transportation, and Payroll and Benefits Administration.
- Capacity to develop and manage the process for setting annual fiscal budgets, working to build financial literacy among all school leaders.
- Provides transparent financial reporting and planning that builds trust among administrators, faculty and staff, trustees and all constituents.
- Oversees all annual financial and 403b plan audits and filings of tax returns. Prepares for and coordinates with the external audit teams and the Audit Committee for the annual audit of the Academy’s financial accounts and 403(b) retirement plan; prepares fiscal year end financial statements, notes to the financial statements and supplementary information.
- Coordinates and reviews with external auditor and Audit Committee the Academy’s IRS form 990 filing.
- Negotiates and maintains the Academy’s employee health insurance and benefit plans.
- Maintains all proper management and file preparation of IRS form 5500 for the Academy’s 403(b) retirement, Flexible Spending Account, Group Health Insurance, Group Life Insurance benefit plans.
- Maintains and administers the Academy’s insurance portfolio and risk assessment practices and procedures.
- Supervises and supports the Director of Human Resources, Director of Plant Operations, oversees the work of the members of the Business Office, and manages the Academy’s service contracts.
