Job description
The Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG) is accepting applications to fill a Youth Suicide Prevention Coordinator position in our Youth Services Division.
Under the supervision of the Division Chief of Youth Services, the individual selected to fill this position will perfom duties to include, but not limited to the following:
- Develop positive and collaborative relationships with key state agencies and community partners for the implementation of youth suicide prevention initiatives, in coordination with other statewide suicide prevention initiatives.
- Participate in and support the statewide suicide prevention coalition and other multidisciplinary groups responding to suicide prevention.
- Coordinate the completion of a special project regarding the development and maintenance of a youth-focused suicide prevention app.
- Bring focused attention to what data is available and what needs developed on youth suicide prevention. Identify and explore solutions for gaps in service delivery and implement an action plan to improve service delivery to high risk youth by recommending public policy and prevention strategies to state agencies, OAG leadership and possibly the Legislature.
- Develop and maintain a youth advisory board to inform best practices and provide feedback for youth suicide prevention strategies.
- Provide training statewide to community members, youth, professionals and other groups on suicide prevention or other related topics.
- Respond to requests for technical assistance and other inquiries from constituents, coalitions, and other groups regarding evidence-based programs, policies and best practices in youth suicide prevention.
- Complete special projects and performs other duties as assigned, in support of the Youth Services division of the Office of the Attorney General.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in social work, criminal justice, public administration, or related field(s). Professional or technical experience, as deemed by the Attorney General to be sufficient qualification to perform the assigned work, may be substituted for the required college study.
LICENSING
- A valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least three (3) years’ experience related to human/social services
- Knowledge and/or training of evidence-based prevention methods
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to communicate technical information; conduct formal presentations; and negotiate with others to resolve issues
- Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to analyze information, think critically, and made recommendations/decisions
- Ability to effectively write letters and documents that are clear, concise and accurate
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, public health, public administration, sociology, education or other health-related field and/or four (4) years of clinical or suicide prevention experience
- Ability to develop strong collaborative working relationship
- Ability to develop, implement and monitor performance of contractor and grantees
