The Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the University of Maryland School of Social Work has an opportunity for a Senior Training Specialist, who will serve as a Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Expert.This position will lead all model implementation across the state, including but not limited to training and guidance in the theory and application of MST to personnel involved with the MST program and who hold a variety of positions including clinicians, supervisors, administrators, and policy makers. The MST Expert will provide MST programs weekly telephone consultation, ongoing training to the MST therapists and supervisors, and support regarding organizational and systems issues. The selected candidate will also be responsible for the development of training programs and components using implementation science and continuous quality improvement to make data driven decisions. This individual will also collaborate with state partners to assess and develop implementation, training, and technical assistance plans to support and improve collaboration among key stakeholders and model providers.

Essential Functions:

• Maintains expert knowledge of MST and its component parts. Engages in ongoing QA of Expert's work and professional development processes with an MST coach.
• Leads weekly consultation for up to 10 teams implementing MST.
• Responsible for leading the development and execution of training programs using generally accepted methods appropriate to the training field. Identifies future training needs and strategies to develop training through implementation and evaluation.
• Leads the development and design of training aids such as handouts/workbooks, PowerPoint presentations, online training, and evaluation/self-test using adult learning principles. Responsible for continuously evaluating effectiveness of training materials and revising as needed.
• Compiles, analyzes, and interprets training data. Assists and plans complex needs assessments to ensure curricula is aligned with department and organization needs. Present and facilitate training programs which apply adult learning concepts, effectively engage participants of varying learning needs and foster learning and implementation of best practice in the field.
• Establishes relationships/partnerships and collaborates with external and internal stakeholders to assess and develop long-term implementation and training plans to ensure needs are effectively met.
• Develops, recommends, modifies and implements policies and procedures and/or methods of technical assistance to meet changing needs and requirements and enforces standards.
• Provides input on the acquisition and implementation of services offered by outside vendors for use in effective training.
• Leads all start-up and ongoing Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities with each team, assesses strengths and needs, and develops plans to address needs at the level of provider and community systems that impact the functioning of the MST.
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and demonstrates skill in understanding cultural differences.
• Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

 

Qualifications

  

Education:M.S in Social Work, Counseling, or related field required.
Experience:Two (2) years of experience as an MST Supervisor and prior experience providing community-based and home-based service delivery using systemic approaches to treatment. Must be able to teach and make effective public presentations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Clinical competence in family therapy, behavior therapy, and child development.
• Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
• Familiarity with research literature on the causes, correlates, and treatment.
• The MST Expert will be expected to perform with self-disciplined independence in an environment of ongoing accountability.
• Ability to communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts concisely, as well as appropriately interpret and understand verbal and non-verbal cues and complex written information.
• Strong leadership skills, approaches work with integrity and open to continuous learning.
• Responsible for leading the development and execution of training programs using generally accepted methods appropriate to the training field. Identifies future training needs and strategies to develop training through implementation and evaluation.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate professional, ethical, respectful, and responsible behavior when interacting with internal staff, external community partners, and clients at all levels.
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Hiring Range for this position is in the mid $70,000s to low $90,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
