Job Summary
The Policy Consultant will continue UTEC’s efforts to make a lasting impact for young adults in
the Commonwealth and across the country through advocacy and legislative policies. Policy
and budget efforts are primarily focused on advancing racial, social, and economic justice
through the pursuit of campaigns that advance areas such as criminal justice reform and varied
other areas. Currently, UTEC is focusing on policy efforts centered on Reentry and Gun
Violence.
The Policy Consultant will report directly to UTEC’s CEO.
Duties/Responsibilities
The Policy Consultant will support the following areas of work:
● Managing UTEC’s local, state, and federal policy and budget platform
● Directing the execution of UTEC’s statewide and federal policy and budget efforts.
● Focus on advancing those statewide bills currently being considered in this legislative session
● Advancing current initiatives while assisting with developing new campaigns moving forward
● Supporting and coaching of UTEC’s policy manager
● Representing UTEC externally at the Statehouse and other areas as needed Required Qualifications:
● At least 5-7 years policy experience with familiarity of the Massachusetts political landscape and state politics. Campaign management is a plus.
● Commitment to UTEC’s core values and culture
● Commitment to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
● Ability to be a thought leader and strategically and relationally, including strong facilitation skills and problem solving skills. Ability to adjust accordingly.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills and creative thinking (turning idea into a policy pitch is a big strength)
● Exemplify UTEC’s commitment to follow-through (strong project management skills, ensuring systems for all key tasks to be completed on time, even in the midst of varied distractions and possible disorganization);
● Willingness to acknowledge mistakes is a must, and capacity to laugh at oneself is a BIG plus.

Location:
Ideally, the Interim Policy Director would be able to hold flexible work hours with travel to the
Massachusetts State House and travel to and from the Lowell UTEC office. We are open to
consultants based in or near Boston/Lowell who are looking to work remotely and travel to the
Massachusetts State House and the UTEC Lowell office as needed.
