Lower School Assistant Teacher

The Langley School

Location

McLean, VA | United States

Job description

Grounded in a deep respect for childhood, The Langley School offers a warm, welcoming community and an exceptional academic program that uniquely combines inquiry-based learning and social-emotional learning for students in preschool through eighth grade. Since 1942, Langley has shaped curious, confident, resilient leaders, thinkers, and creators who are prepared to thrive in the nation’s top high schools and beyond. Langley attracts and retains talented faculty who support the whole child, are excited to be leaders in teaching and learning, and enjoy working in a diverse, highly collaborative setting. Teachers at Langley are committed to the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of each student and foster a nurturing, engaging learning environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Our full-time, salaried assistant teachers work closely with lead teachers to deliver small-group and full-class instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and/or life skills and collaborate with head teachers to assess and record student progress. Guided by the theory and practice of the Responsive Classroom and our own Community Contract, assistant teachers work with lead teachers to provide consistent and positive classroom management.

Assistant teachers are dedicated to a grade-level team, working with the lead homeroom teachers as well as resource and specialist teachers to provide instruction to three sections of students across the grade level. The daily schedule is determined based on the needs of students in partnership with the grade-level team teachers and the division head. Through generous professional development opportunities and regular collaborative team meetings, assistant teachers are able to develop their skills and work toward their professional goals.

The Langley School offers highly competitive salaries, excellent benefits, robust professional development opportunities, and tuition remission for faculty and staff.
