Job description
As the Safety Assistant, you will maintain the daily activities of the Safety Department and serve as a liaison to the Dayton Freight Service Centers.
- Manage Driver hiring and qualifications in assigned regions (review driver applications and motor vehicle records, conduct background checks, and ensure all Drivers meet DOT requirements)
- Send supplies to Service Centers
- Create and distribute all Safety Training Certificates and booklets
- Maintain Driver qualification files in accordance with applicable DOT regulations
- Audit and complete Annual Reviews and Periodic Qualification Reviews
- Review and submit department invoices
- Complete employment verifications
- Upload Safety-related documentation
- Create emergency evacuation maps
- Maintain high level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Assist on projects within the Safety Department
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations as they apply to Driver qualifications and drug and alcohol testing preferred
- Self-starter, ability to prioritize, organize and complete projects and assignments with limited supervision
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments
- Strong teamwork, initiative, customer service, critical thinking, and listening skills
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good written communication skills with the ability to create internal memos and training documents as necessary
- Experience maintaining confidential information and exercising a high level of discretion
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to proofread and edit various documents.
- High-level proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
