Position: Sr. Technical Writer

Job Description:
Write, edit, index, or revise a variety of technical, user documentation such as articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for a wide range of uses.
Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and/or product management during design phase to gain an understanding of the product.
Analyse requirements of project to determine types of publications needed.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of technical documentation.
Requires excellent oral and written communication skills and an understanding of programming concepts, operating systems and/or networking.
May provide guidance to lower level personnel. Requires 5+ years relevant experience
Summary:
The main function of a Technical Writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions.
A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files.
Job Responsibilities:
Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology
Maintain records and files of work and revisions
Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science or English, Journalism, Communications
5-7 years' experience required
Experience in in creating documentation for a technical audience
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
Ability to read some programming code
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Typical Day in the Role
Purpose of the Position
The position supports Network Operations and the Service Desk to ensure they have accurate SOPs.
Key projects -
This position will help verify the accuracy of old documentation with the client and write new technical documentation for the delivery teams.
Candidate Requirements
Years of Experience Required
5+
Degrees or certifications required none required, but an MS or CS background or a solid understanding of code is helpful
Disqualifiers -
The candidate must be comfortable pushing back against leadership/stakeholders to ensure everything is documented correctly and accurate.
Best vs. Average
The best candidate is comfortable with autonomous work
will pick up quickly on things, own their work, and be somewhat independent.
