***This is a grant funded position *** Position Overview: The Medical Assistant supports patient care services provided by the Health Services (HS) program. The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing clinical tasks in accordance with all Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and HS Program protocols. This position will work with the clinical team to create and maintain efficient, patient-centered daily clinic operations while providing comprehensive public health services to all Harris County Public Health patients seeking health services.
Duties & Responsibilities: Assist with program health screening by performing phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing and vital signs.
Prepare and label samples (stools for parasite, blood, sputum, etc.) for transport to appropriate laboratories.
Provide in-room support for all clinical staff during the clinic visits as needed.
Maintains laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
Inventories supplies and forms; submits items for ordering (via designated software and contract laboratory) as needed.
Assist in performing data entry and electronic data processing by using the program EMR, Microsoft Excel, and any other related software.
Stock the clinic with all the equipment necessary for client screening. Assist with rotating dated stock to prevent loss.
Make home visits when necessary to retrieve medical records and obtain consents and/or collect specimens.
Perform quality assurance on all needed medical equipment
Other duties as assigned.

Education:
Licensure/Certifications:
Certified by the American Association of Medical Assistant
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certified approved by the American Heart Association
Must have a valid Driver’s License (TX upon hire)
Experience:

Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and navigating EMRs
Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
Knowledge of current CDC recommendations for immunizations
Ability to organize material, prioritize job tasks, make reliable judgments, and draw conclusions from verbal discussions and written data
Ability to draw conclusions from data, such as lab tests, to record this information accurately in patient’s record, and to notify the Clinical Manager or medical providers when deviations occur

Experience: - Experience working in community clinical setting
- Six (6) months as a Medical Assistant with experience in a medical office, hospital, or laboratory
Language: - Bilingual (English/Spanish
Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work: - Full-Time | Grant-Funded
- Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.
- Expected to travel within Harris County jurisdiction.
Work Environment: - This position operates in a medical clinic environment.
- This position also operates in a standard office environment with standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.
Physical Demands: - Persons in these positions frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs. They also occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs.
