Position Summary

The Director of Library Services is charged with developing and promoting the vision for the Northern New Mexico College library and providing strategic leadership by leading a team of dedicated professional and support staff. The Director of Library Services will enhance and communicate the value and role of the College’s library in a manner that maintains effective and efficient operations while supporting the College's mission with a focus on teaching and learning. The Director coordinates all library services, oversees and evaluates personnel, and collaborates with faculty, works closely with the President, Provost, Deans, Chairs, and faculty to improve outcomes in student learning and to provide resources for teaching. The Director will provide overall leadership for the library in the context of the College's instructional programs. The Director works with the appropriate campus committees to facilitate integration of technology with the library’s functions.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Direct all library operations at multi-campus sites, including library information resources in a variety of formats, circulation, technical services, library automation, and reference services.
• Prepare, administer, and monitor budgets for the library.
• Ensure development and assessment of the libraries' bibliographic instruction program and the information management requirement competencies.
• Provide leadership in balancing traditional library collections, methodologies, and services with those of the current digital environment and evolving technologies. Promote student, faculty, staff, and community use of library resources and services through advocacy and public relations initiatives.
• Supervise library staff and promote library staff growth and development.
• Serve on college committees and task forces to ensure continuing library support of college programs, services, and activities.
• Represent and promote the college library as a member of professional organizations and consortia at the local, state, and national levels.
• Conduct needs assessments as part of the strategic planning process for library acquisitions and services.
• Share knowledge of current issues and trends facing higher education, including copyright, licensing, and incorporating technology into instruction.
• Facilitate and support the College's mission including its focus on teaching and learning.
• Develop a coordinated library instruction program in collaboration with librarians, teaching faculty, and campus partners offering instructional technology and pedagogical services.
• Organize and lead training opportunities on effective teaching and student learning.
• Participate in the delivery of general reference and research consultation services, which may involve occasional evening and weekend work.
• Contribute to library operations and initiatives through leadership and participation on committees, task forces, and working groups as assigned and represent Northern New Mexico College in relevant professional and scholarly organizations.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master of Library Science or equivalent from an American Library Association-accredited program.
• Library management experience.
• Five (5) years academic library experience.

PREFERRED :

• Experience as a director or as a head of a library unit
• Experience managing budgets
• Teaching and reference experience in a college setting
• Experience developing and/or directing initiatives
• Building management experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of a computer.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Sitting for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Work is typically performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• No or minimal exposure to physical risk.
• No or very limited physical effort is required.
• Will qualify for driving state-owned institutional vehicles by completing defensive driving training.
