Departmental Overview

The Graduate School of Journalism is a complex academic unit whose mission is to expand the worldwide impact of truth-seeking, fact-based and inclusive journalism by training the next generation of diverse journalists to become exceptional storytellers.

This position plays a crucial role in organizing and maintaining audio and video equipment in the equipment room. Responsible for utilizing our equipment checkout software to track equipment, coordinate reservations, and efficiently manage the check-in and check-out processes for our graduate students. Maintain inventory accuracy by conducting regular audits and promptly reporting any damaged or lost items. They also handle the general maintenance of equipment, ensuring that it is in optimal working condition. Provides event A/V support for journalism school events, which includes operating wireless microphones, PTZ cameras, projectors, flat-screen TVs, and more. Assists in occasional live streaming and hybrid events, thus contributing to the successful execution of multimedia experiences.

Salary & Benefits


This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.


The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.20 (Step 1) - $32.08 (Step 12).
