The Department of Environmental Protection is currently seeking an individual with molecular biology skills and a keen interest in vector biology to join our team as a Microbiologist 1! As a Microbiologist 1, you will primarily be responsible for molecular testing of arthropod vector samples for the presence of arthropod-borne diseases. You will conduct specialized microbiological analyses to detect and characterize infectious disease agents, as well as extract nucleic acids from arthropod samples using a combination of manual extraction techniques and instruments. Additionally, you will c onduct instrumental analysis, interpret the results, and prepare reports of these results. Secondary responsibilities include data entry and assisting colleagues in implementing new laboratory techniques, testing methods, and procedures to improve testing efficiency and result accuracy.

. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Limited term, full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel and overtime required as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in microbiology; or
- A bachelor’s degree that includes 20 credits in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology or bacteriology and 12 credits in chemistry or biochemistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
