Job description

St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the position of Public Safety Officer.  The full performance level of work responsible for protecting the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on the college campus.  Public Safety Officers receive general supervision from the Shift Supervisor and will be required to work rotating shifts and are subject to call-in duty.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, Associates Degree preferred, a minimum of three years’ experience in a post-secondary professional environment, possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland, and a telephone.  Previous security experience is preferred.  The successful applicant will be subject to a criminal background check and substance abuse testing.  Applicants must also have excellent customer service and public relations skills, proficient computer skills, and have or able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications.  Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.  Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.  The beginning salary for applicants who are non-commissioned Public Safety Officers is $36,740.
