Position Summary/Description:

The Research Associate/Project Manager will be responsible for oversight of regulatory, compliance and contractual performance outcomes of the research programs in Orthopaedics and act as a liaison between the external sponsors, project vendors/sponsors and the Department of Orthopedics. The primary role is oversight of research projects/programs lead by faculty/staff in the Department of Orthopaedics including external entities (local and central IRB , sponsors, CROs and others) to ensure appropriate research compliance as well as provide oversight of complex operations involving multiple project managers and many study team members. Serve as the single point of contact for project entities external to UNC regarding regulatory and/or contractual issues for Orthopaedic Studies. These entities include but are not limited to the UNC offices of research and other affiliated clinical centers, research centers, ancillary study investigators, and other institutions involved in the study. 

This position will also support research teams in orthopaedics with submission and monitoring of grants, contracts and research projects for Orthopaedic studies including study direction, preparing and monitoring proposals and budgets; preparing and attending study-related meetings, assisting with coordinating staff efforts and operations and conducting high-level communication among the internal and external parties involved in orthopaedic studies. The position will also work with faculty and staff to support abstract and manuscript submission which may include opportunities for inclusion as co-author on publications and presentations at meetings and/or conferences. Work with department leadership, faculty and staff to support external communication/ dissemination of research achievements in presentations, news outlets, social media platforms.

Education and Experience:

Experience in research operations, research administration, project management, or grants management is strongly preferred.
