Pay Rate: $26.57-$43.76 hourly Job Description: Assists in the development, implementation, and coordination of an effective Infection Control Program. Responsible for infection prevention and control functions, surveillance for specific healthcare associated infectious diseases, reporting of cases involving the possible spread of infection, outbreak investigation, analysis and interpretation of data concerning epidemiologic investigations, institution of control measures, and program evaluation.
- Conducting infection control surveillance activities and maintaining and reporting the data.
- Performing infection control reviews. When applicable, assisting with reviews of sentinel events for quality assurance.
- Maintaining knowledge of new scientific findings and regulations.
- Utilizing up-to-date infection control practices to reduce healthcare-acquired infections.
- Reviewing sterilization and disinfection procedures, with input from Central Sterile Supervisor.
- Providing educational opportunities to hospital staff and other healthcare workers as appropriate.
- Participating in monthly environmental rounds.
- Collaborating with Employee Health regarding employee Infection Control issues.
- Collaborating with the state and local Department of Health, reporting required infectious diseases.
- Disseminating Infection Control information.
- Collaborating with Environmental Services to ensure proper infectious waste management.
- Collaborating with Infectious Disease Medical Director.
- Coordinating the Infection Control Committee meetings.
Qualifications Job Qualifications: Education: - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a BSN required, MSN preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or equivalency with ASCP registry, MS preferred.
Licensure/Certification: - Valid RN license to practice professional nursing in the state of Ohio (if applicable)
- Infection Control Certification (CIC) preferred or obtained within 1 year
Experience: - Minimum 3-5 years experience in a health care setting. Infection control experience desired.
Job-related Skills: - Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; ability to problem-solve and facilitate resolution to issues;
- Demonstrates ability to handle multiple priorities; ability to make independent decisions.
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations for: Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens, Infectious Waste, and Hazardous Chemicals.
- Knowledge of NIOSH, CDC, TJC, APIC, ISD and other infectious disease regulations.
- Strong organization skills.
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
