About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a R&D Manager supporting WATCHMAN projects within the BSC’s Cardiology division. WATCHMAN continues to be an exciting growth driver for BSC. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a blend of technical knowledge, collaborative stakeholder management, coaching ability, clear decision making and project management expertise. This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver next-generation concepts for life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC’s mission. Specifically, this role will support the development of our next generation WATCHMAN implant. These investments in new technology and the team who develops them will drive a robust pipeline of solutions for left atrial appendage occlusion that will keep BSC in a market leadership position.
Your responsibilities include:
Drive a team of 4-8 engineers and technician to deliver technical excellence for new product development, functional excellence initiatives and high quality technical plans and deliverables..
Support career development of the team with a focus on professional execution and development, personal wellness, and career growth.
Provide feedback and mentorship to accelerate talent development while building a framework for elevating the way in which we do New Product Development.
Collaborates with cross functional partners to support the development team, project planning, and the decision-making process.
Works cross-functionally and leverages BSC-wide resources in identifying new capabilities, solutions and resolving technical issues.
Drives multiple technical projects of varying magnitude and scope.
Supports the generation of VOC/VOB/VOT/VOx to inform unmet needs
Provides significant guidance and approval regarding technical strategies and approaches.
Owns intellectual property development for the multiple product lines, technologies or specialized functions, for both self and staff.
Develops and monitors department budgets, staff levels, schedules and resources.
Generate project investment proposals
Lead technology integration & knowledge transfer within domain of responsibility
Provide clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates and phase gates
What we’re looking for:
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering or similar
Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 8+ Years Experience through most stages of medical device product development
Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular anatomy.
Ability to provide technical leadership as it relates to product and process design
Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Engineering Discipline
Experience in early stages of medical device product development
Strong leadership and communication skills
Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience
Ability to research literature and develop clinical understanding with technical credibility to develop a strategy for product investments and concept down-selection
