Electrician Foreperson - Facilities & Services Facilities & Services Job Summary The Electrician Foreperson executes duties associated with administration and operation of the electric shop. This position plans, schedules, coordinates, and supervises the work of electrician sub-forepersons and assigned electricians.
Duties & Responsibilities - Directly supervises, provides leadership, and assigns work to electrician sub-forepersons and electricians assigned to the electrical shop to be completed in accordance with prioritized needs and schedules. Plans and organizes the electrical maintenance and alteration work performed by electrician sub-forepersons, electricians, and other assigned personnel. Assists with estimates by providing labor and material costs for assigned projects which may include departmental charge-out, maintenance repairs, and preventative maintenance. Works closely with the work management center, project coordinators, engineering, and Building Maintenance; monitors schedules and controls craft related costs.
- Monitors work performance of assigned sub-forepersons and electricians and ensures satisfactory work quality and completion requirements are being met. Monitors work to ensure compliance with prevailing codes and university facilities standards as well as correct procedures and techniques. Visits job sites to ensure satisfactory work quality and completion requirements are being met.
- Maintain records of work completed, material purchasing, overtime lists, training records, and verifying mobile timekeeping/ timecards.
- Responsible for tools, equipment, and ordering materials for use by the electrical sub-forepersons and electricians in the electrical shop. Inventories tools and equipment.
- Participates in schedule review meetings with the work management center for final schedule approval. Participates in multi-craft work order review meetings with shop forepersons and building maintenance supervision.
- Makes recommendations for safety initiatives and programs, hiring and discipline, and addresses performance issues. Responsible for safety and policy enforcement.
- Provide leadership for emergency response off normal working hours to handle emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Performs electrical work as needed and directed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands 1.Must adhere to F&S safety and health policies by ensuring shop tools and equipment are functioning properly, monitoring personnel to assure safety and security policies are being followed, promote safe operations, and support departmental safety initiatives and programs. Must be aware of potential danger from moving parts.
2. Must be able to work amid hazards of work sites such as exposure to chemicals, radiation, heat, cold, dust, fumes, noise, animals, laboratories, coal fired power plant, and energized electrical equipment. Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required when hazards exist.
3. May work in extreme weather conditions and temperature extremes ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels.
4.Must be able to walk, climb, bend, and crawl in order to access any work area such as attics, crawl spaces, false floors, ceilings, and scaffolds. Must be able to work at heights on lifts, scaffolds, ladders of all types, and bucket truck for lengths of time.
5.Must be able to multi-task on a routine basis due to the number of issues that must be dealt with daily. The workload associated with the position can be stressful at times.
6.Works at the direction of the Superintendent of Building Maintenance. Work is assigned through the Work Management Group, Service Office, Superintendent of Building Maintenance or via the Director of Building Maintenance & Grounds or their designee in oral or written form. Must be able to work self-managed with limited supervision.
7.Must be able to interact with supervision, peers, employees, customers, and the campus community. Creates a work environment which develops accountability for performance and develops teamwork and unity within the shop and throughout the University campus.
8.Must be able to deliver tools, materials, and personnel to job site as needed operating a University vehicle.
9.The Foreperson is expected to support the Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and management operational directions and philosophies of Facilities and Services by exemplifying high standards of leadership, loyalty, craftsmanship, and dedication.
Minimum Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of nine (9) years (108 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors, and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to effectively supervise others (plan, organize, prioritize, assign, and follow-up on assignments).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, sketches, blueprints, and job specifications.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code and university facilities standards.
- Ability to provide directions both orally and in written form that are concise and understandable.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems.
- Thorough knowledge of the tools, testers, and equipment used in the electrical industry.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of University procurement system.
- Ability to provide directions both orally and in written form that are concise and understandable. The ability to work effectively with and understand customer needs and requirements.
- Working knowledge computer programs including Outlook, AiM, Excel, and Microsoft Word.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 1264 - Electrician Foreman position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. Salary is based on the prevailing rate which is currently $54.12/hour.
