Duties
Incumbent serves as a Civilian Crime Scene Investigator for the Lafayette Police Department in the Civilian Unit of the Detective Division performing activities associated with the Lafayette Police Department's digital and/or physical forensic investigations. This position includes field work for the collection of digital or physical evidence.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of bachelor's degree in computer science, computer forensics, crime scene analysis or another field commensurate to a trained crime scene investigator or digital forensics investigator, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training or work experience. Ability to maintain confidentiality of department records and information.
- Schooling or the ability to obtain training in Basic Crime Scene Investigations, Photography, Shooting Reconstruction, Blood Stain Analysis, Death Investigations, and other forensic type accreditations and/or Possession of, or ability to obtain certifications such as Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner (CCME), AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE), Encase Certified (EnCe), Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE), computer assembly / disassembly experience, experience using Xways, FTK, and/or Encase forensic platforms; Experience using Cellebrite UFED4PC/Physical, Analyzer, Magnet Forensics IEF, other similar data extraction and parsing tools.
- Must be willing to travel for training and obtain necessary certifications within two years unless timeframe extended by supervisor for scheduling and administrative reasons.
- Must have a working knowledge of major social media platforms including, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. Possess knowledge with regard to communicating with others via these platforms.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing while being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality is required. Ability to work extended, evening and weekend hours, and travel out of town for meetings/conferences, sometimes overnight.
- Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license and demonstrated driving record.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Incumbent performs a majority of duties in a standard office environment involving sitting and walking at will, handling/grasping/fingering objects, close vision and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent will also spend time working outdoors and occasionally in adverse weather conditions during scene investigations. Incumbent will occasionally perform job functions that requires living heavy weights, climbing and positioning themselves in hard to reach locations. The ability to physically lift 30 lbs. overhead and move bulky objects is required. Incumbent will come into contact with various hazardous chemicals, drugs and pathogens and will need to take the appropriate precautions. Incumbent occasionally works extended, evening and weekend hours, and occasionally travels out of town overnight for meetings/conferences/professional development.
