JOB DESCRIPTION:
Associate Vice President of Finance
Department: Fiscal
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Chief Financial Officer
Position Overview:
Oversees the agency’s fiscal operational areas (Government reporting and audits, Financial Analysis, Risk Management, Staff and Foster Parent Payrolls, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Billings/Cash Receipts). A career ladder path to the agency’s CFO position.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
A. Accounting
- Oversees the day-to-day Fiscal accounting areas. Autonomously manage all important accounting activities.
- Provides the financial information agency leaders need to create forecasts and strategic plans.
B. Regulatory Functions
- Oversees government reporting and audit planning and management, including preparation of the agency’s Financial Statements. This requires the skills to gather, summarize, and interpret financial data and verify its accuracy.
- Ensures integrity in financial reporting by formulating policies and procedures. Create, maintain, and monitor a system of checks and internal controls that helps keep the agency safe from financial fraud. These areas must attain and maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory agencies and funding sources.
C. Risk Management
- Works with senior managers to conduct a risk analysis. Including but not limited to, areas of operations, compliance, legal, or reputation. Analyzes and ensures good credit, financial ratios, and liquidity for Graham.
- Analyze Graham's past financial performance, estimate its future performance, and value its equity
D. Other Areas
- Works collaboratively with Graham’s Funders, Board, and Programs within the agency’s One Graham positive culture.
- Carry out selected short and long-term special project assignments identified by Supervisors or other senior administrators.
- Performs regular supervision of direct reports using the agency’s supervision model.
Qualifications:
- CPA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of non-profit industry-related experience and BA/BS degree, preferably in accounting or finance.
- Require excellent spreadsheet and strong database skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications), as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must have knowledge and experience with General Ledger & Journal Entries.
- Strong preference for NYC (ACS & DYCD), Medicaid, and other NYS not–for-profit systems, processes, and billing practices.
Must possess the following qualities:
- The skills to perform advanced financial management and analysis.
- Skills to assemble, motivate and inspire a strong team and drive outstanding performance.
- Sound audit planning and management skills.
- Knowledge of Federal, New York State, and City not-for-profit regulations.
- The ability to establish strong working relationships and work well with teams and individuals within the agency, government, and other social service agencies.
- Proficiency in English: written and spoken.
