Job Duties

What drives you? Are you someone driven by innovation, with a passion for traffic engineering? Do you have experience conducting traffic engineering studies in the field? Have you designed traffic control plans? Are you familiar with traffic impact analyses? If so, you should consider joining our Richmond District Traffic Studies group (Colonial Heights, Virginia).

As the selected candidate, you will have the opportunity to conduct a wide variety of traffic engineering studies aiming to improve traffic operation and safety. The selected candidate will also develop, review, and provide guidance on pavement markings and markers, sign plans and other traffic control device plans for the district. Position will perform traffic impact analyses and site plan review to ensure the established policies and design standards are properly followed. This position will also collect and analyze traffic related data and develop recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in conducting traffic engineering studies involving traffic operations, traffic control devices, and roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity issues.
• Experience designing/reviewing plans for traffic control devices, incorporating traffic engineering requirements into roadway plans, and making recommendations for plan changes.
• Experience collecting and analyzing traffic related data.
• Experience gathering data, developing recommendations, and making presentations.
• Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and standards.
• Skilled in the use of computers and software applications to include traffic engineering and design software such as CADD, MicroStation, Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, CORSIM, SYDRA, etc.
• Valid driver’s license required

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) desired

Special Instructions

References, work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment. Fingerprint-based background check required. Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
